Team begins workouts...

Woburn, MA- Only 24 hours separates us from the first on-ice team workout, as Saturday afternoon players from the Danglers will meet at their practice facility in Woburn for a meeting and light skate.  For the most part it will be the local veterans on the ice tomorrow with only a few rookies.  Players expected to take part in the skate are the following: Jim Toomey, Jim Crowley, Mark Dube, Todd Rowley, Jon Hutcheon, Evan Spencer, Nick D'Agostino, Jeff Fanning and Coleman Noonan.

Eight of the 9 players will definately be on the teams opening night roster, but Noonan is signed to a tryout contract only and will have to prove himself over the next month to make the final squad.  "We know Noonan had a great freshman season this year, but now we need to see what he's capable of doing with the rest of the Danglers." said team president Pat Conley.

Two Danglers Leave the nest...

Billerica, MA-  Jarrett Scarpaci and Andrew Scarpaci have both left the Danglers and will play on Snipe City's minor league team on Wednesday nights.  It is still uncertain as to why the brothers have decided to drop down a level and play in the B league, Jarrett currently ranks 2nd all time in Danglers scoring and Andrew is 4th overall.  "It shocked everyone in our organization when word spread about the Scarpaci's departure.  Jarrett's been an assistant captain here for 2 years in a row and it really took us by surprise.  A lot of the guys just thought it was a rumor until Hutch told everyone that it was official." said newly named assistant captain Jim Toomey.  "It definately leaves a big void in the scoring department for us.  We originally thought that we would be able to bring the young guys along slowly, but this changes everything.  We need young guys to step up right away and make an impact." said captain Scott McDougall.

Dangler Weekly...

Reading, MA- The Snipe City Danglers season has officially begun, last night UConn lost in the Atlantic Hockey playoffs ending Steve Bergin and Matt Turner's season, the two were the last Danglers playing this season.  With the beginning of the season now comes difficult decisions as to roster moves that need to be made.  The Danglers have become so popular with Eastern Mass hockey players that there is a possibility of a 2nd team being added to the Danglers, "This season we have over 20 players interested in playing on the big club, obviously we cannot hold that many players on a summer league team.  It comes down to either letting go some players who won't hold their weight or creating a 2nd team for the new guys." said team owner and assistant captain Jon Hutcheon. "Our lineup looks like an all-star roster it's going to be tough to let some guys go." added Hutcheon

With all the talks with free agents it is always great to re-sign a Dangler veteran who has proven himself at the summer league level over the past couple seasons and the Danglers have done just that today when they announced just moments ago that Paul D'Agostino has officially re-signed for the upcoming summer.  "It's an opportunity to return to a program with a rich tradition and there's definately a feeling of nostalgia in the air today.  Hopefully this is finally the year we win a championship." said D'Agostino via text message.

With opening night a mere 5 weeks away the Danglers will start skating as a team as soon as this weekend.  Saturday afternoon there will be a meeting and skate at the teams practice facility in Woburn, MA at 4pm.  "April 17th is approaching fast and we need to make sure we're ready from the start this season.  We started out fast last summer but hit a wall in the middle of the season and we can't afford that again this summer.  It cost us very valuable playoff positioning." said captain Scott McDougall.  All workouts this season will be open to the public and media.

SCD inks UConn's Turner, begin discussions with elder D'Agostino...

The Danglers only have five full time players coming back from last season's squad, seven total who suited up for them summer.  What that means is a lot of new faces this April at training camp and hopefully it means a new word in the Danglers vocabulary: Championship.  "We said it at the beginning of the off season, we knew we weren't going to have many returning guys because of our sub-par record last season.  The new guys know how to win and that should translate into more wins on the scoreboard for us this summer." said captain Scott McDougall.  So here we are another day, another new Dangler to welcome to the family.  Matt Turner, a 21 year old forward from Colorado Springs, has signed a contract for the summer.  Some might remember Turner from last summer when he played in one game for the Danglers and chipped in an assist.  Currently Turner is in his freshman season at the University of Connecticut with fellow Dangler Steve Bergin.  Turner is a shifty playmaker who will be used both on defense and on the wing this summer.

In other news, Danglers veteran Paul D'Agostino got in touch with Jon Hutcheon via text message earlier this afternoon to advise him of a possible return this April.  D'Agostino is currently playing Canadian University Hockey at Dalhousie University in Halifax, where even if you have pro experience (like Paul) you can return to school and still be eligible to play.  D'Agostino won't know until mid-April if he will be able to return to the States however because of some school credits he needs to make up.  D'Agostino said "If I am able to come home this summer it will be much like Forsberg, the only place I'll sign is with the Danglers.  I asked Hutch to hold a roster spot for me and now I'm just hoping to get everything cleared with Dalhousie and make my return to Snipe City in time to win a championship.

This season, much like last summer the Danglers will be inviting between 4 to 8 players to training camp who are not under contract.  "We have a very good solid core of about 10 guys we know are under contract and are guaranteed spots this summer.  But we do need to fill 2 more full time slots and with Dube leaving in July we need some guys on our inactive roster for fill ins when the time comes." said team G.M. Pat Conley.

Danglers Update...

2/26/08- Another week goes by and more rumors are starting to fly about who will be in what uniform this summer.  First and foremost the Danglers have entered into a formal agreement with the Billerica HasBeens to use the HasBeens as the Danglers highest minor league team this summer and hopefully for years to come.  "Signing this agreement ensures us that we have a place to send guys on rehab and conditioning assignments.  We also now have a place for prospects to grow and develop.  All in all it's a very good business venture for both parties." said SCD President Pat Conley.

Rumors are flying about who will be in a Snipe City uniform this summer.  The Danglers are proud to announce that forward Mark Dube has signed a rookie contract for 3 seasons.  "Dube is a great pick up, we'll only have him for the first half of the season before he leaves for the Army but either way he's a guy you want to have wrapped up for a while." said Conley.  Dube, a 19 year old from Billerica, spent this season with the New England Huskies in the EJHL and accepted an offer to play division 1 college hockey at West Point next season.  Dube's season was limited to only 16 games this season due to a knee injury, but in those 16 games his presence was felt with a 9-5-14 line with 14 penalty minutes.

Also in the rumor mill are Nick D'Agostino, Coleman Noonan, and Sean Roche.  D'Agostino was used sparingly last summer, but has bulked up this offseason and it looks as though he will sign with SCD before the start of camp.  Noonan and Roche are new prospects who will most likely be invited to training camp and have to battle out for a job.

Nick D'Agostino is coming off his second season with the Dallas Hawks in the Western States Hockey League and is looking for a fresh start with the Danglers.  "Last summer I wasn't playing anywhere near th Dangler status quo and it upset me.  I had a lot of personal issues going on and my head wasn't clear.  This summer is going to be different I promise my fans that." said Nick last night.

In other news the status of Connor Toomey is now on the rocks.  "He's a very young player still and I'm just not sure if he's ready to hang with the big boys.  A summer in the minors with Billerica might suit him better, where he can grow and turn into an impact player his first year with SCD.  We're still talking about it with Mr. Conley and we will have a decision in the coming weeks." said Toomey's agent Trisha Toomey.  Stay tuned for me on this developing story.

Dangler Update....

Plenty of news for the Danglers update this edition.  Time has flown by and we have gotten lazy on the player updates this off season.  Keep it here for news, notes and quotes from around the globe on all your favorite Danglers.

To kick things off a Danglers announcement.  The Danglers have announced in a press release that 19 year old forward Jim Toomey has been named Alternate Captain for the 2008 season.  He is only the 3rd player named alternate captain in team history.  "It's such an honor to be named a captain of this team, to join McDougall and Hutch as a captain this season is something I won't take lightly.  I've always been a leader and now is my chance to show everyone." said Toomey.  When asked if he was a vocal leader or one who leads by example Toomey had this to say, "I just try to go out and do my job and show the way for the younger guys, if it means being vocal I'll speak up but otherwise I like to just lead by example."

"Welcome to the Family"... The Danglers announced earlier this week the signings of Evan Spencer, Paul Snell and Connor Toomey.  Toomey leads the group as the player who has been drawing the most hype, as a sophomore he has been tearing up prep school hockey with 41points thru 19 games this season with a 15-26-41 line.  The 5'10 172lbs rookie hopes to make an impact right away in the Bay State League, "It's going to be a step up to play with and against guys in college and pro hockey.  But it should be fun and hopefully there won't be too much of a learning curve and I can make an impact right away."

"Regular Season Numbers".... In years past players who played for Snipe City have always gone on to have outstanding regular seasons and this year has been no different.  Leading the pack has been Steve Bergin, who entered his freshman year at UConn and never looked back.  He currently ranks second  in defensive scoring with 5 points in 26 games and is playing on the 1st D pairing.  Jeff Fanning has been having a breakout season at Bowdoin University with 5 points in 13 games.  Jim Toomey struggled early but is finding his groove at St. A's with 1 assist thru 10 games.  Jim Crowley is attracting some college looks with his stellar defensive play for the New England Jr. Huskies with 5 points in 30 games and a +18 rating.  Rookies Paul Snell and Connor Toomey are sharing success as well, Snell has 9 points thru 22 games at St. A's and Toomey as mentioned above has been a menace to all of prep school hockey.  Rounding out the group is Jon Hutcheon who has continued his trek around the country is his 3rd professional hockey season playing for the Amarillo Gorillas(CHL), Knoxville Ice Bears(SPHL) and Valley Forge Freedom(MAHL) thru 19 games he has a 1-11-12 line with a -14 rating.

Season coming quickly...

Eight weeks separate us from the quickly approaching Danglers season.  The 4th season in Snipe City history will see only 6 returning Danglers from last summer.  Captains Scott McDougall and Jon Hutcheon will be returning for their 4th campaign, Jim Toomey will return for his 3rd and Steve Bergin, Jim Crowley and Jeff Fanning will embark on their 2nd season.  With so few players returning management has been left with voids at all positions including goaltender, this season the Danglers will use a goaltending duo of Todd Rowley(Southern New Hampshire University) and Ryan Hatch(Salem State College) to hopefully lead them onto the teams first ever championship summer.  "We looked back on it and in years past we were always so worried about being able to score goals we never thought about stopping them.  This summer we're going to have a new look and hopefully we're successful in building from the pipes out." said captain Scott McDougall.
Even with goaltending all set there are still some major holes in the lineup, "Ten weeks from the drop of the puck and we had 6 spots that we needed to fill.  We signed some players earlier this week that we know will be able to come in and make an impact right away.  But we still have 2 or 3 spots we need to fill." said McDougall.
Among the rookies hoping to make an impact are Paul Snell(St. Anselm's College), Evan Spencer(Stonehill College/Danville Pounders) and Connor Toomey(Proctor Academy).  Snell, a 19 year old freshman forward, brings decent size to a small Danglers team.  Currently thru 22 games he has a 5-4-9 line.  Spencer, a 22 year old defenseman, played 4 seasons at Stonehill College and 2 games for the Danville Pounders of the NEHL last season, he will help steady the defense with his big frame and puck moving abilities.  Connor Toomey, a 17 year sophomore forward at Proctor Academy, brings youth to the Danglers along with speed and great hands.  He is the younger brother of Jim Toomey.

Danglers Update

11/30/07  After another long summer and another disappointing playoff loss, the Danglers are back at the drawing boards.  "It takes alot to become a championship team and we just haven't had it the past two summers.  It's very disappointing to come up short like this again." said alternate captain Jarrett Scarpaci.

Going back to the drawing board includes looking at players on the team and deciding who to keep and who to release.  "It certainly isn't an easy task looking at our roster and trying to weed out who we're going to keep and who we're going to replace.  It's never easy telling a guy he's not going to be coming back, but we want to win here and unfortunately player movement is part of what is going to help us win." said team G.M. Pat Conley

Of course there are a few players who are certainly due back in a Danglers uniform.  Captain Scott McDougall, Alternate Captains  Jon Hutcheon and Jarrett Scarpaci.  Joining them will be veterans Jim Toomey, Andrew Scarpaci, Steve Bergin and Jeff Fanning.  McDougall and J. Scarpaci retired from competitive hockey after last season their senior year at UConn.  Hutcheon has played 4 games total this season, 2 with the Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League and 2 with the Knoxville Ice Bears of the Southern Professional Hockey League, he gathered 2 PIMs in those 4 games.  Toomey is in his freshman year at St. Anselm's and Bergin is in his freshman year at UConn following the McDougall/Scarpaci legacy thru 8 games he has a 1-1-2 line.  Fanning is also in his freshman year at Bowdoin with 1 assist thru 3 games.

"It's a solid core that we have to build around we're really hoping to get Mike Cornell under contract he's been a guy who was really looking like a solid prospect for us last summer but just couldn't make many games.  There's a few other guys that we had on the team last year that we hope we'll be able to work something out with.  We put ourselves in this situation by not winning though so we don't have time to feel sorry about this.  We set very high standards for this club and when guys don't perform they don't last long." said Scott McDougall.

Goaltending is by far the biggest issue as of late.  The Danglers were off to a very hot start last summer until they began to struggle in the defensive zone.  Looking at numbers from the past two summers Todd Rowley appears to have the upper hand for the starting job, but there have been rumors that Salem State junior goalie Ryan Hatch has interest in becoming a Dangler.

"We're not pointing fingers at anyone players come and go we've all been through it.  Some more than others and we all understand that it has to happen.  The good thing is the 6 other veterans are already talking about the upcoming summer and hopes are high that we come away with a championship.  This year we don't want any egos we want to go in do our business and have fun afterwards in the parking lots." said Jon Hutcheon.

Only time will tell how good the upcoming Danglers will be, stay tuned for updates as the Danglers will look to put together a championship team.

Danglers continue to roll

The Snipe City Danglers defeated the Bustonians in a 6-5 nailbiter last night at the Burlington Ice Palace.  Without high scoring forward Paul D'Agostino the Danglers rallied late in the 3rd period on the back of captain Scott McDougall.  After a 2-2 first period and a 4-3 Bustonians lead heading into the 3rd someone needed to step up in the 3rd and McDougall came thru with the help of linemates Stevie Bergin and Jarrett Scarpaci.  The all UConn line started off the 3rd period when Scarpaci scored just 54 seconds into the period assisted by McDougall and Bergin.  Then late in the 3rd trailing by a goal McDougall tied the game at 5 with 3:55 left on the clock assisted by Bergin and Scarpaci.  That sequence replayed itself with just 2:35 to play when it was again McDougall squeezing one thru the five hole for the game winner again assisted by Bergin and Scarpaci.

The win was the Danglers 4th in a row and improves their record to 7-7-1 heading into the final three games of the season before playoffs.  SCD will try to move up into either 1st or 2nd place to get a first round bye in the playoffs.  "Getting that bye would be nice but it's not something we can worry about right now.  We need to take it one game at a time here and not get too far ahead of ourselves." said assistant captain Jarrett Scarpaci after his 3 point night that included a goal.

Bergin and McDougall each had 4 points, Jon Hutcheon and Jeff Fanning had 2 point nights while Nathan Scarpaci added a goal.

Another tough game awaits SCD as they square off against the Bentley Falcons, the Danglers are 1 and 2 against the Falcons this summer.  Game time is another 8:50pm start.

***Due to last weeks forfeit win everyone who showed up got an extra goal or assist for the 3-0 win.

Can a rookie help the team out of the slump?

Danglers Weekly...

5/30/07---  It's been a tough few weeks for the boys of summer as they have gone 0-2-1 in their last three games, dropping their record to 3-2-1 on the season.  The Danglers hope to turn things around tomorrow night against the Trojans of Arlington at 10pm in Burlington.  The Danglers squeaked out a victory in the 2nd game of the season earlier this summer over the Trojans by a score of 7-6.  As of now the Trojans sit in 3rd place, two points behind the Danglers and the Bustonians for 1st place in the league.

In other action around the league last week the Trojans defeated the Bustonians 5-4 in a game that saw the game winning goal come with just 8 seconds left on the clock in the 3rd period.  The game against the Ice Dogs and The Team was not played due to insufficient amount of players.

One look at the Danglers stats page will show you that not much has changed in the points department, Jeff Fanning still leads the team in points with 12.  There is a 3way tie for the lead in goals scored between Paul D'Agostino, Jon Hutcheon and Fanning all have 5 goals.  There is a 2way tie for assists between Andrew Scarpaci and Fanning, each of them have 7 assists.  The top 5 scorers are Fanning with a 5-7-12 line, Hutcheon 5-6-11, A. Scarpaci 3-7-10, P. D'Agostino 5-4-9 and rounding out the 5th spot are Stevie Bergin and Jarrett Scarpaci with a 3-5-8 line.

"We've played a third of the season and we're still holding onto first place, our record isn't where we want it to be but that can all change in two weeks.  As long as we get our focus back on track we'll be fine.  I'm feeling much better than I was the past two weeks so hopefully I'll be back to normal in net for the boys." said goaltender Ryan Mula about the first 6 games of the season.

"We knew coming into the league that it was going to be a step up from the league we were in last summer.  I think we just gutta go out and realize this is still only the summer and it's supposed to be fun.  We'll be fine and we'll pull out of this slump, even the best teams go through rough patches." said captain Scott McDougall.

Danglers suffer first loss...

After rolling thru the first 3 games of the season with relative ease the Danglers stumbled against the Ice Dogs and snuck away with a tie in the 4th game of the season.  After a few grueling on and off ice workouts the Danglers thought they were prepared for the powerhouse Bustonians.  But then a new pair of skates arrived for goaltender Ryan Mula, those new skates did more harm than good in the first period of last Thursday's game as Mula gave up 7 first period goals on 12 shots.  The Danglers could only muster one goal in the 1st period in an attempt to stop the bleeding when Jarrett Scarpaci scored assisted by Jon Hutcheon and Chris Macinnis.  After the horrible 1st period the Danglers wanted to prove they could compete with the top team in the league.  And the did that, the 2nd and 3rd periods were a completely different game as it was a 3-3 score for the rest of the game.  Unfortunately for the Danglers the first period haunted them and the final score was a humiliating 10-4 loss.  Danglers Captain Scott McDougall had a hat trick in the losing effort, alternate captain Jon Hutcheon chipped in 3 assists after being moved up to center, alternate captain Jarrett Scarpaci had a goal and assist and Chris Macinnis had 2 assists.

The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Danglers as they face off against the tough Falcons of Bentley College who are still searching for their first win of the season.  "We're coming off a big loss and they haven't won a game yet so both teams are really going to be battling for the W." said Hutcheon about the upcoming game Thursday night at 8:50pm in Burlington.  When asked about the team leading the league in goals scored and goals against he had this to say, "It's a bitter sweet situation to be in we really need to start playing better team defense and stop looking to Mula to constantly bail us out."

Quotes from the locker room....

"Well we're starting to worry about Bergin, his paper bag is getting bigger and bigger.  I mean he is starting to become an emotional wreck and a definate liability for our team."---Scott McDougall

"Tthe past few weeks have been a definate struggle for the team and myself personally.  I've been held scoreless in the last 2 games and it's really starting to get to my head.  With the new economy size paper bag I think I'll be back to my old self because now I can actually jump in it while on the bench and not hyperventilate.  Look for my play to be back to normal next week."---Stevie Bergin

Leads Defense with a 4-3-7 line

Danglers Weekly....
Fanning leads team, Hutcheon leads defense

5/9/07- After three games the Danglers are hitting their stride as a team.  They have outscored opponents 25-18 on way to a 3 and 0 record in a tough, veteran laden league.  "I think we settled down nicely last week after a couple close games with the Trojans and Falcons.  We really played our game against The Team last Thursday and we're looking strong.  We're trying to keep it on an even level though we don't want to get too high on ourselves, it's a long season and we have to keep playing at this level." said team points leader Jeff Fanning.  "I think we got a very solid performance out of Ryan Mula and all of our defense.  It also helps alot to have Scott McDougall and Jarrett Scarpaci back, those guys bring a wealth of knowledge and veteran leadership."

That veteran leadership is also helped by Paul D'Agostino and Jon Hutcheon.  D'Agostino is 2nd in points with a 5-4-9 line thru 3 games while Hutcheon leads the defense with a 4-3-7 lines thru 3 games.  Hutcheon had this to say about the young rookies on the team this year, "We're a young team we have guys like Stevie Bergin, Nathan Scarpaci, Chris Macinnis, Nick D'Agostino and even Ryan Mula who are all rookies with us.  Even Fanning only saw limited time with us last summer and he's leading us in points.  But, with the amount of young guys on the team I think everyone is adjusting nicely.  Bergs is already up there in points and we saw a huge improvement out of Mac in his second game with us last week so it's definately exciting to see these young guys coming to play hard every night and their hard work is paying off for sure.  It helps with the 5 veterans we have here it makes McDougall, Jarrett and my job easier as captains when we have P. Dags and Bones(Andrew Scarpaci) helping lead the team as well."  When Hutcheon was asked if he thought the veteran leadership had anything to do with the rookies success he added this, "I think it's more the fact that these guys were told at the beginning of the year by our G.M. Pat Conley that they had to produce in order for us to be successful this summer.  The vets we have in the locker room have tried to make it an easy transition for the youngsters and now they're just running with it.  I think it was that weekend away with the boys at UConn where we had almost everyone down there for a couple days.  We really bonded that weekend."

Tomorrow night the undefeated record of the Danglers will be put to the test as they face-off against the Ice Dogs at 8:10pm.  "We don't know a thing about them except for the fact that they lost to The Team 11-4 in the first week of the season.  But we won't be taking them lightly at all sometimes previous scores can be decieving." said goaltender Ryan Mula.  "We'll be ready to go that's a guarantee."

3rd place Danglers look for first ever playoff win tonight...

Snipe City gave up a few too many goals against this summer and as a result are forced to play in tonight's quarterfinal game against the IceDogs at 8:50pm.  The Danglers finished the season with a 9-8-1 record compared with the IceDogs 5-11-3 record.  The two teams seemed to match up well though as they are 1-1-1 against each other this summer.  "They're a solid team, they struggled a bit to get their regulars to all their games so who knows which team we'll play against tonight." said Andrew Scarpaci.

It will be a struggle for the SCD as they will be without their captain, 2nd and 3rd leading scorers tonight.  Captain Scott McDougall will miss action due to a previous committment, 2nd leading scorer Jeff Fanning has moved away to school as well as 3rd leading scorer Steve Bergin.  Also missing will be Jim Toomey who moved away to school and Paul D'Agostino is listed as doubtful as he is still battling recovery of hernia surgery from 2 weeks ago.

"It's going to be tough that's alot of offensive production out of the line up tonight.  That's probably about 65% of our offense out for the first game of the playoffs.  We need some guys to step up and I expect myself to lead the team tonight.  We definately need a big one out of the Scarpaci brothers also." said leading scorer Jon Hutcheon.

"Now will be a good of time as any for me to break out of this slump and steal a game for our club between the pipes.  We're focused and ready.  It's playoff time and we can't use the excuses of not having our big guns.  We'll rely on Hutch and Macinnis to carry most of the load and hopefully come out with the W." said goaltender Ryan Mula.

5 Point Night

Danglers pull out last minute victory over The Team!

Missing key players Paul D'Agostino (hernia) and Jim Toomey (vacation), along with both goalies Ryan Mula and Todd Rowley, the Danglers were able to squeak out an 8-7 win last night in the dying minutes of the 3rd.  A Jon Hutcheon powerplay goal with 1:57 remaining to play assisted by Scott McDougall and Stevie Bergin sealed the deal.
It was back and forth all night, it is believed that the winner of the regular season finale would take 2nd place and receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs.  After a 2-2 first period McDougall exploded with a 3 goal outburst in the 2nd period for a natural hat trick.  Also scoring in the 2nd period was Bergin with his 7th of the season and rookie Evan Spencer who scored his first in his SCD debut.  After two periods the Danglers were holding down a 7-6 lead but that was spoiled with 2:36 to go in 3rd after a defensive breakdown led to a breakaway.  SCD's newest addition Matt Turner from UConn drew a power play for the Danglers and what would eventually become the game winning goal by Hutcheon.

McDougall took home player of the game honors again with a 3-2-5 line.  Behind him Chris Macinnis had a 0-3-3 line, Andrew Scarpaci had 2 assists.  Hutcheon, Bergin and Spencer all had a goal and assist a piece.  Turner had a goal, while Jarrett Scarpaci and Jim Crowley each had an assist.

Quotes from the locker room....

"Tonight's game was a battle, I just did what I had to do as a captain of this squad and led by example on the ice.  We really wanted to get a win tonight for our team president Pat Conley who was in attendance for the regular season finale." Scott McDougall on his performance

"It was just a lucky bounce off the back wall on the shot from Scotty and then I was able to somehow squeeze it thru from behind the net.  It's a big win for us, Matt Walsh played awesome for us in net and made some huge saves and really put us in position to win tonight.  That's a big game from a young goalie, it's good to have him in our organization." Jon Hutcheon

"I didn't think I played that great but we were able to get a win.  It's always special playing with this team and I'm glad to get them a win." goaltender Matt Walsh

"It definately puts us in good position for the playoffs we needed that win and hopefully that solidified 2nd place for us."  Jarrett Scarpaci

"I was glad to see the team not give up and settle for the tie.  Our boys battled all night long and we got the W.  The Team just kept pressing there in the final 2 minutes but defensively we were able to fend them off and it was just a great all around effort.  Onto the playoffs!"  Team president Pat Conley.

More news to come on playoff standings and match ups as soon as they become available to the press.

Summer season winding down

What started out as such a promising summer for the Danglers has turned into a mediocre one at best.  "It's been frustrating, we never really hit a groove and put a solid streak together.  Jumping up in leagues was a bit of a wake up call, we're a very young team and though we are a skilled team we don't really play the same style as most teams in this league play." said Scott McDougall

Entering the final game of the season SCD is sitting in 4th place with a 7-9-1 record and will face off against Ice House Thursday night at 8:50pm.  "We're looking to come out and get a solid win so we can roll into the playoffs on a good note." said Stevie Bergin

For most players in the Bay State Hockey League when the summer season ends they move on to their winter adult leagues.  For the Danglers when the BSHL ends most of their guys move back to their school teams or for a few Danglers back into the pro ranks.

Guys like Paul D'Agostino, Jon Hutcheon and possibly Jarrett Scarpaci will move onto their pro teams in the fall.  D'Agostino and Hutcheon will each enter their second full season of pro, while Scarpaci has pondered the idea of making the jump and entering his rookie season.  D'Agostino has talked to a few teams and hasn't committed yet, but says he is close to figuring out who he will start the season with.  Hutcheon has signed with the Indiana Ice Miners of the Mid Atlantic Hockey League.  Scarpaci has talked with a couple teams and as of last week wasn't sure about the MAHL, but also thought about going overseas to play in Italy.

Jeff Fanning, Jim Toomey, Stevie Bergin, Ryan Mula and Todd Rowley will all go into college has freshmen.  Fanning takes his skills up to Bowdoin College where he hopes to share the same success there as he did this summer with the Danglers.  Toomey will move onto powerhouse St. Anselm's College after a huge PG year at Kimball Union Academy.  Bergin is moving onto a school where Danglers are very familiar as he will carry on the legacy left behind by Dangler teammates Jarrett Scarpaci and Scott McDougall at the University of Connecticut in Division 1 Atlantic Hockey.  Mula will be the other Dangler to join Bergin in the Division 1 ranks as he moves onto Merrimack College after a promising showing at the Anaheim Ducks prospects camp.  Rounding out the freshman five is Todd Rowley who will attend Southern New Hampshire University and compete for the number 1 goaltending job.

Chris Macinnis will be returning to Salem State College as a sophomore where he was 2nd leading scorer as a freshman last season.

Jim Crowley will enter his rookie season in the Eastern Junior Hockey League with the New England Jr. Huskies after a great senior season at Pomfret Academy.

Snipe City drops second in a row

With only two games remaining in the regular season going into last night's game against the Arlington Trojans the game was an obvious must win for SCD.  Chris Macinnis had his best game in a Dangler uniform and got the scoring started just 3 minutes into the game on a nice 2 on 1 play set up by Jeff Fanning and Jon Hutcheon.  The lead was shortlived though as the Trojans bounced back with two goals 50 seconds apart.  It looked as if it would end that way until a fluke shot from the point by Hutcheon somehow found its way to the back of the net with just 47 seconds left to play in the first assisted by Scott McDougall and Stevie Bergin.

The second period was controlled by SCD but they could only manage 3 2nd period goals.  First it was Fanning assisted by Bergin and McDougall.  Then McDougall scored one of his own assisted by Macinnis and Jarrett Scarpaci. After that Andrew Scarpaci potted his 6th of the season assisted by Macinnis.  Unfortunately for the Danglers, Arlington had an answer for 2 of the 3 goals and the boys went into the 3rd period up 5-4.

The 3rd saw more up and down action, but the Trojans we running with 3 lines and 5 defensemen to the Danglers 8 players total.  Eventually the dump and chase style of the Trojans and physical play wore on the Danglers and the Trojans scored two unanswered goals to take the 6-5 win and 2 crucial points in the standings.

"It's tough to be missing guys when we're on the home stretch into the playoffs.  Guys are battling injuries and the short bench really hurt us tonight." said Andrew Scarpaci.

Paul D'Agostino missed the game due to a small abdominal tear and possible hernia.  "I'm seeing a surgeon this week to determine what the next step is.  I hope I'll be ready for playoffs that's what we play for." said D'Agostino.

In net Ryan Mula was back between the pipes for the first time in a month for the Danglers.  Mula, who recently attended the Anaheim Ducks rookie camp, looked strong in net and gave SCD a glimmer of hope for the playoffs.  "Mula played a very solid game back there tonight he made some great saves for us and really kept us in the game.  We didn't have a very strong defensive game tonight and left him out to dry on at least 3 of those goals." said Stevie Bergin.

With one game remaining there are as many as five Danglers battling for the scoring title.  Jeff Fanning and Jon Hutcheon lead the team with 27 points a piece, Paul D'Agostino has 24, Steve Bergin has 23 and Andrew Scarpaci has 22.  Seven Danglers have hit the 20 point plateau this summer.  It is the 2nd summer in a row for Scott McDougall, Hutcheon, A. Scarpaci and Jarrett Scarpaci to score at least 20 points.

Next week in the regular season finale the Danglers take on Ice House at 8:50pm.

A wild game ends early...

In a game that can only be described as wild the Danglers may or may not have walked away with a 4-3 loss at the hands of the Falcons.  With 8:47 to play in the 3rd period a minor scruffle broke out behind the Danglers net between Jarrett Scarpaci and a Falcon player, after the 2 players were separated the refs called the game.  "It's unfortunate cuz we could have won the game even though we only had 6 skaters to their 13." said goalie Todd Rowley.

It wasn't the only altercation in the game, in the first period Jim Toomey got into with the same Falcon player who was looking for trouble all night.  In the 2nd period after an errant high stick by Paul D'Agostino caught a Falcon player across the nose another scruffle broke out.  The Dangler players knowing they were already short on bodies knew better than to fight though.

"Hopefully the league decides on a ruling soon and lets both teams know.  So close to the playoffs each team was battling hard, it was a one goal game and that stuff happens sometimes." said alternate captain Jon Hutcheon.

In other news the Danglers have released Nathan Scarpaci, Nick D'Agostino will also miss the remainder of the season.

Next week's game is at 10pm against the Arlington Trojans.

Scarpaci suspended by team

SCD rookie forward Nathan Scarpaci has been suspended indefinately by the Danglers after breaking team rules Friday night.  "It's not something we're going to bring to the publics attention but as of now he is off the roster and we will determine his fate with this club after we have meetings with him and the coaching staff." said President/General Manager Patrick Conley.

Keep it here as we will keep you updated as this story unfolds.

Mula shines out west...

Danglers starting goaltender Ryan Mula attended the defending Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks prospects camp last week.  This excerpt is taken from July 15th Boston Sunday Globe...

Travelin' man
Waltham's Ryan Mula wrapped up his first development camp, spending the week with the Anaheim Ducks and their hotshot prospects, including forward Bobby Ryan, the No. 2 overall pick of the 2005 draft. Mula, a 21-year-old goalie, held his own and is looking to carry some momentum into the fall, when he'll be a freshman at Merrimack. Otherwise, 2006-07 wasn't exactly a storybook season. After a normal 2005-06 stopping pucks for the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League's Lindsay Muskies, he bounced from the Indianapolis Ice (USHL), Green Bay Gamblers (USHL), back to Indianapolis, Wichita Falls Wildcats (NAHL), and Alaska Avalanche (North American Hockey League), all in search of playing time. But Anaheim general manager Brian Burke got wind of Mula's play, inviting the former Globe All-Scholastic to the West Coast. "He loved it," father Jack Mula, the New England Patriots executive (general counsel/player personnel), said of his son's showing in camp. "He was pretty psyched. He's happy he had that experience and saw what the pros were like."

Danglers roll with Falite, D'Agostino

SCD pulled off it's second straight win, this time over first place The Team by a convincing 12-5 score Thursday night in Burlington.  The Danglers were without scoring leader Jeff Fanning, but Paul D'Agostino along with Kory Falite and Jim Toomey picked up the slack.  D'Agostino had 2 goals and 3 assists and Toomey had 2 goals and 2 assists.  But it was Falite who was a pleasant surprise for the Danglers in his debut with the team, it was Falite who netted the first hat trick on the season for the Danglers and also added a helper for a 4 point night.  Todd Rowley got the win in net for the Danglers replacing Ryan Mula for the second week in a row.  Jon HutcheonAndrew Scarpaci and Jarrett Scarpaci all had a 3 point night with a goal and 2 assists a piece.  Rookie Paul Scola scored his first as a Dangler and added a 2nd later in the night.  Stevie Bergin added 2 assists as well.

The win improved the Danglers record to 5-7-1 on the season with 5 games remaining.

Danglers finally get a win...

It wasn't how the Danglers from Snipe City thought it would come, many players envisioned a big time win after a hard fought battle on the ice for the full 36 minutes of summer league action.  But in reality it took alot less hard work than that, the Trojans never showed up for the 10pm faceoff Thursday night giving the Danglers a 3-0 forfeit win.  It is the first win for the Danglers in 8 games ending a 0-7-1 streak.  "We'll take em any way we can get them at this point in the season.  Maybe this is just what we needed to get back on track." said Jeff Fanning

The night wasn't a complete waste though as the team played an intrasquad 4 on 4 scrimmage for over an hour.  Jarrett Scarpaci, Scott McDougall, Jim Crowley, Paul Scola, and Stevie Bergin made up the colored team while Jon Hutcheon, Paul D'Agostino, Nick D'Agostino, Kory Falite, Jim Toomey, and Jeff Fanning donned the home white jerseys.  "It was good for us to get a solid skate in with the guys and be able to play shinny like that.  It was a good pace and we saw some great plays.  Let's hope it carries over into the game this week against The Team." said Bergin.  Forwards Bryan Calabro and Andrew Scarpaci decided to take the night off and nurse injuries to be ready for Thursday night.  Calabro was seen icing his lower back, while Scarpaci is battling the flu.

The game against The Team, who currently sit atop the standings will begin at 8:50 in Burlington Thursday night.

Danglers Story...How they got here

Everyone has a story, here are the story of the Dangler players and how they became a Dangler.

Scott McDougall played his high school hockey at Catholic Memorial for 3 years on some of the strongest high school teams ever in Massachusetts.  In his senior year at CM he left to play junior hockey for the Walpole Stars.  After a successful season under legendary coach Jack Sweeney he moved on to the University of Connecticut to play 4 years of hockey in the Division 1 Atlantic Hockey Association.  McDougall has been a Dangler for the past 3 summers and Captain for the previous 2.  Now that he has graduated from UConn he will begin his coaching career next season as head coach of the Neponset Valley River Rats U-18 team and as assistant coach of the South Shore Kings in the Eastern Junior Hockey League,
Jarrett Scarpaci played his high school hockey at Billerica Memorial High School where he graduated in 2002 with 136 career points in 4 seasons.  He was named MVC player of the year his senior year before moving on to play his junior hockey with the Boston Jr. Bruins.  After one year with the Jr. B's he also moved onto UConn and just graduated this past spring.  He is a 3 year veteran of the Danglers and in his first season as Alternate Captain.  As a UConn graduate he hopes to move into teaching next fall before going to law school.
Jon Hutcheon also played his high school hockey at BMHS where he graduated in 2002 with 29 career points in 2 and a half seasons.  After high school he moved onto the Eastern Junior Hockey League with the Lowell Lock Monsters and Valley Jr. Warriors, where he was named captain his second year with the Warriors.  From there he went to UMass Boston where he last less than a full semester, after that he went to training camp with the Danbury Trashers of the UHL.  He started this past season with the Rocky Mountain Rage in the CHL then moved onto the Knoxville IceBears, Findlay Freedom, Danbury Stars, and Danville Pounders.  He's in his 3rd year with the Danglers and 2nd as Alternate Captain.  He is unsure about where he will play next season although has talked to a few teams.
Paul D'Agostino played high school hockey at Austin Prep, Catholic Memorial and Lawrence Academy before moving to Texas to play juniors with the Texas Tornado of the NAHL.  Then he moved a little closer to home to play a season and a half with the CD Selects in Troy, NY.  He then signed to play at UMass Lowell, where he played his freshman and sophomore years.  After his sophomore season he felt it was time to move onto to the pro ranks when he went to camp with the Providence Bruins of the AHL.  From there he spent time this season with the Lubbock Cotton Kings and Tulsa Oilers of the CHL, then Pensacola Ice Pilots and Trenton Titans of the ECHL.  It is D'Agostino's 3rd year with the Danglers and he is also unsure of his home next season but has been in contact with some teams.
Andrew Scarpaci rounds out the 3 year veterans.  He graduated from Billerica Memorial High School in 2004 after a 3 year campaign with the varsity team.  That was his last time playing organized hockey.
Bryan Calabro was also a 2002 graduate of BMHS where he has 85 points in 3 seasons.  After graduating back problems slowed his performance in juniors and sidelined him for the better part of 2 years.  After he was completely recovered he enrolled at Worcester State College last fall as a sophomore.  He has played 2 seasons there so far and tallied 15 points all assists.  This is his second summer as a Dangler and he will be a senior at WSC this fall.
Jeff Fanning played his high school hockey at prep school BB&N in Cambridge, MA.  After 4 years of varsity hockey there he moved onto play for the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs of the EJHL where he had a 10-8-18 line in 35 games for the Tier 3 Junior A National Champions.  Next season he will take his game to Bowdoin University, this is his 2nd year as a Dangler.
Jim Toomey graduated from BMHS in 2006 where he only played one year of varsity hockey, his junior year, his senior year he played for the Northern Mass Cyclones junior team.  After that he played a PG year at Kimball Union Academy this past season.  He will take his talents to St. Anselm's this fall after completing his 2nd year in a Dangler uniform.
Stevie Bergin just graduated from Lawrence Academy this past June where he starred as a defenseman.  He was a highly touted recruit who many schools wanted to see play a year of juniors, but after much thought he decided to accept an offer from the University of Connecticut and follow in the footsteps of Danglers veterans J. Scarpaci and McDougall as a Husky.
Paul Scola is in his rookie season with the Danglers as a late addition to the club.  He played this past season for the Foxboro Stars of the EJHL.  This upcoming season he will be headed to Merrimack College to play for the Warriors with Ryan Mula and former Dangler Justin Bonitatibus.
Nick D'Agostino played at Walpole High School before moving to Texas to play for the Dallas Hawks of the Central States Junior Hockey League.  This being his first year in a Danglers uniform he is trying to break out of his older brother Paul's shadow.  Next season he will play for the Boston Shamrocks in the EJHL.
Chris Macinnis is another Foxboro Star almun who now plays college hockey at Salem State College.  Coming from Waltham, MA he was 2nd in scoring as a freshman for the Vikings this past season.  Also in his rookie year as a Dangler he will be a sophomore leader at SSC next season.
Nathan Scarpaci is the last BMHS grad, who also graduating in 2006 with Toomey.  He has struggled trying to emerge from the shadows of older brothers Jarrett and Andrew.  He decided against playing hockey for Salem State this past season.  He's in his first full campaign with the Danglers and is done with organized hockey.

Danglers face off against Trojans

The Trojans currently sit in 3rd place while the Danglers are struggling to hold on the to 5th spot in this 6 team league.  Veterans Scott McDougall, Paul D'Agostino and Jon Hutcheon will be heavily relied upon this week as well as points leader Jeff Fanning to pull the team from this slump.  "It would be real nice to get this monkey off our backs and the sooner the better.  We're all fighting the puck right now and we can't seem to get the bounces we need to win." said captain Scott McDougall.

Other veterans Jarrett Scarpaci and Bryan Calabro are listed as questionable for this weeks game.  Scarpaci has been solid for the Danglers with a 3-7-10 line in 7 games, while Calabro has only seen limited time posting a 1-1-2 line in 3 games.

Rookie Paul Scola is expected to be back in the lineup as well after the Danglers released defenseman Jim Crowley from his tryout contract on Monday night.  "Crowley is a great player and he had some good games with us, but at this point in time with the numbers situation and the way the team is struggling he is not going to fit into the puzzle right now." said general manager Patrick Conley.

Puck drops at 10pm this week.

Summer Heats up, Danglers stay cold

It's night and day from last summer to this summer, last summer the Danglers were in the midst of a 10 game winning streak at this time.   This summer, they're in the midst of an 8 game winless streak.  "Nothing has been going right for us, there are no answers to it.  We just need to bear down and get things back on the right track for the 2nd half of the season." said rookie Nick D'Agostino

The Danglers will have a new goalie between the pipes on Thursday,  18 year old Todd Rowley will make his Danglers debut for the 2007 season.  He played one game with the Danglers last summer and won his only start.  He is headed to Southern New Hampshire University this fall to play hockey.

Rowley will be taking over in goal for Ryan Mula this week who will be spending the weekend in Anaheim, CA at the Anaheim Ducks prospects camp.  Mula was contacted June 24th by Ducks management who would like to take a look at the 21 year old prospect.  Mula had this to say "It was a surprise but I'm very excited to go out and show the Stanley Cup champions what I have.  Let's just hope I'm better out there than I have been this past summer."  Good Luck Ryan.

Danglers GameDay...

Coming off yet another loss last week the Danglers are looking for answers to this 5 game slump, hoping those answers come against the Ice Dogs the same team that sent the Danglers into a downward spiral.  With the addition of defensive stalwart Mike Cornell along with sniper Justin Bonitatibus the Danglers seem poised and ready to get one back in the win column.  Nick D'Agostino will miss tonights action due to an undisclosed injury, but should be back in the lineup next week.

Ryan Mula will attempt to get his goals against average under 6 for the first time in 3 weeks.  Mula has struggled a bit as of late, but hopes tonight will be better.  "I've just been off my game lately and I haven't been performing.  The boys got me a lead last week and I couldn't hold onto it for them.  I think tonight will be different."

Jeff Fanning still leads the team in points with 17 thru 8 games, he leads the team in goals with 7 and is tied with Jon Hutcheon for assists with 10.

Player of the Month honors for the 2nd month of the season goes to Jeff Fanning.

Danglers Weekly

After yet another disappointing loss last week at the hands of The Team, one in which the Danglers squandered a 6-3 lead midway thru the 2nd period en route to a 10-7 loss, the roster will see a few new faces over the coming weeks to see what will work best for the back half of the season.  This week against the Ice Dogs you will see Mike Cornell for the first time this season, after a brief stint with the Danglers last summer Cornell has been added back to the roster on a one game contract that may turn into a full season contract.  "I can't wait.  I loved playing here last summer and to get the chance to come in again this summer and try to help the boys turn the season around is awesome.  Hopefully I can be productive and pull them out of their slump here." said an eager Cornell just moments after getting the news.

Paul Scola will rejoin the team two weeks from now for the rest of the summer.  Scola saw action in one game earlier this summer and registered 2 assists before being sent back down for more experience.  "With Paul it was just some small adjustments he needed to make and he's been working on them so we feel he's ready and gave him a contract for the rest of the summer." said Scott McDougall.

It's been a struggle for the past 5 weeks around the Danglers dressing room where nothing has seemed to go right since the last time they faced the Ice Dogs and gave up a 4-3 lead with just seconds remaining.  "That game started this downhill slide for us and it's something none of us have forgotten.  We need this win here to get back to .500 and make a solid playoff run.  I'll be looking to set the tone early on in the 1st period and hope the rest of my teammates are going to play the same way." said Paul D'Agostino

His words were echoed by most of the team, here are some tibdits from this mornings practice...

"Adversity is a tough pill to swallow and I think we've faced it head on these past few weeks.  We remember who sent on on this slump and we're looking for payback."---Andrew Scarpaci

"I like the way Mac stood up for himself out there last week, him dropping the gloves and not backing down from that goon showed that team and more importantly our team that we still have the fire to win.  Maybe that will help us come out strong against the Ice Dogs."---Jim Toomey

"We're coming to play and we're going to win it's as simple as that."---Nick D'Agostino

The puck drops at 7:40pm Thursday night.

Captains attempt to rally...

On Monday afternoon captains Scott McDougall and Jon Hutcheon had a conference call with G.M. Pat Conley that lasted a little longer than 30 minutes.  The main reason of the call....Turning this skid around.  "We need to find a way out of this funk we're in and nothing we tried to this point has worked.  So we're going back to square one with this." said Jon Hutcheon.  "Summer hockey is supposed to be fun, a time to hang out with the boys after a long regular season, play a hockey game have fun and share stories.  The past 4 week haven't been fun." Hutcheon added.  The three leaders of the Danglers touched on many subjects but they kept returning to one, tightening up defensively.  "We need to make a big move here to tighten up our defense as a team.  These other teams are playing hockey and we're just going thru the motions.  No one likes to lose and you can't have fun when you lose.  We have a few ideas in motion to get things turned around." said Scott McDougall.  "Teams play us hard every night, they don't want to lose to a bunch of kids.  The worst thing that happened to us was opening the season with three dominating wins.  Now when you look at the schedule it is very, very possible for us to lose our next 3 if we don't wake up and start playing hockey." added McDougall.

One rumor being tossed around is that of moving Stevie Bergin back to defense, his natural position and the one he'll be playing at UConn this upcoming fall.  "I'll do whatever I can to help the team out and if the head guys think moving me back on D will help turn this around I'll give it a try." said Bergin.

Another rumor is the possible return of defenseman Mike Cornell, something that may include releasing a forward to make room on the roster.  Cornell played in 3 games with the team last summer and had 8 points.  He then played for the Foxboro Stars of the Eastern Junior Hockey League where he was a force on the blueline.  Currently talks are in progress that may see Cornell in a Danglers jersey as early as this Thursday.

One definate for this Thursday's game against The Team is that defenseman Andrew Scarpaci will be out of the lineup.  Scarpaci had his wisdom teeth removed on Monday and has not been cleared to play yet.

"Bottom line is we want to have fun and the only way for us to have fun is to win.  No one is safe right now on the roster and everyone needs to perform this Thursday." said McDougall as he exited the teams practice facility Tuesday morning.

No end in sight...

They've tried everything, from off-ice conditioning to on-ice sprints to bringing in new players.  Nothing has worked and the once powerful Danglers have now dropped 3 games in a row and are 0-3-1 in their last 4 games.  The skid has seen them drop from 1st place to 3rd place in just two weeks.  "We're not playing as a team right now and it's getting embarrassing.  We're playing as individuals and no one seems to want to come together.  A few of us are stepping up our games, but it needs to be a team effort.  I mean never in my life have pointed fingers but I think there's only a handful of guys in that locker room playing the way we're supposed to play.  I know my points production has dropped but christ it's not all about points, we have guys like Fanning, Hutcheon and Toomey putting up points for us right now.  I'm trying to focus on playing solidly in my defensive zone and help create chances on offense.  Until we come together as a team we're screwed, it's just going to keep getting worse." said a visibly upset Paul D'Agostino just minutes after the game at a press conference.

This week the Danglers were victims of the Arlington Trojans, who defeated the boys 5-3.  For the second straight game the Danglers were held scoreless in the first period and never recovered from a 1-0 deficit.  The Danglers tied it at 1 a piece 3 minutes into the second period when Chris Macinnis scored his 4th of the season assisted by Scott McDougall.  But then the Trojans scored 3 goals to take a commanding 4-1 lead.  With 2:24 left in the game Jim Toomey scored his 3rd of the season assisted by Jon Hutcheon to cut the lead in half.  With a glimmer of hope and the Danglers big guns on the ice for the final 2 minutes the Trojans put an end to any dramatic comeback when they scored an empty net goal with 50 seconds remaining.  Toomey finished the scoring with 32 seconds to play assisted by Jeff Fanning and Hutcheon.

After missing 5 games Jim Toomey returned and looked like he never missed a beat popping 2 goals.  Bryan Calabro made his season debut on a line with the D'Agostino brothers and looked more comfortable as the game went on.

Quotes from the locker room:

"Nothing is working right now, new guys, new lines nothing is working.  I mean who knows where we go from here.  I thought Mula played well in net, a couple of those goals were off rebounds and we didn't pick up out front.  In order to turn this thing around we need to play a complete game like Dags said earlier."---Jon Hutcheon

"It's a low feeling, no one likes to lose I don't care what it is.  These teams we're playing against are playing hard.  To some of these teams it's their last chance to play in an organized league, for us this is just fun.  But it still sucks to lose."---Chris Macinnis

"I don't know what we can do to get out of this slump, everything we have tried hasn't worked.  Maybe it will work itself out, I mean every week we keep telling ourselves that next week will be better.  There can't be a next week we need to fix this now."---Nick D'Agostino

Will he be able to bounce back from consecutive losses?

Another disappointing night...

No one knows what is wrong right now inside the Danglers dressing room, after starting out the season 3 and 0 and averaging 8 goals for per game, the Danglers have hit a horrific skid and are now 0-2-1 in their last three games.  The latest loss coming at the hands of the Bentley Falcons 6-3 last night in Burlington.  The Danglers have now scored just 10 goals in their past 3 games while giving up 20.  "Talk about day and night from the first 3 games to the previous 3 games.  I don't know what it is, no one knows what it is.  Part of it might be everyone trying to do too much and not playing a team game like we were in our three wins.  Bottom line is we need to figure it out and get back on track." said an angry Nick D'Agostino after last night's stunning loss to a Bentley team that had yet to record a win all season.

Bentley made history when they held the Danglers scoreless for the 1st period of play, something that no team has ever done in Snipe City's two year existence.  The Falcons scored two goals in each of the three periods to upend the Danglers by a final score of 6-3.  By the time the Danglers could get on the board Bentley already had a 4-0 lead.  Nathan Scarpaci scored his second of the season with 2:48 remaining in the 2nd period assisted by Andrew Scarpaci to make it a 4-1 Bentley lead.  After another Bentley goal early in the 3rd period Jarrett Scarpaci made a beautiful end to end rush and scored his 3rd goal of the season assisted by Jeff FanningBentley would put the nail in the coffin though with 4:49 remaining to make it 6-2.  Jon Hutcheon scored his 5th of the season assisted by A. Scarpaci with 2:58 remaining in the game to make it 6-3.

Next week the Danglers will take on a very tough Trojans squad who defeated the Bustonians last night with 8 seconds remaining.  With the Bustonians loss and the Danglers loss the two teams are still tied for first place in the league.  The Trojans are now in 3rd place just 2 points out of first place.  Click here for league standings. www.baystatehockey.com/adults/mens/burlington_summer/thursday_standings.htm

Now for some quotes from inside the Danglers locker room:

"Every team goes thru slumps we just need to stay focused and realize we still have two-thirds of the season to play.  Alot can happen over the next 12 games so we need to put this behind us and move on as quickly as possible."---Jarrett Scarpaci on the team's recent 3 game skid

"I think it's great that guys want points but it's starting to cause us to play a selfish style of hockey and we need to get out of that garbage.  I told the guys after the game that if we don't start playing like a team again I'm going to start going for the lead in penalty minutes.  It's just rediculous to put your personal stats ahead of the team."---Paul D'Agostino when asked about his slide in the points race

"You know what we're going to be fine, we have a great team in this locker room and we know how to win.  This is a good league we're playing in and just because we can't go undefeated doesn't mean we're not going to be successful.  Look at the standings and you'll see that 3 points separates 1st place from 4th place.  It's going to be a fight to the end."---Nathan Scarpaci on the team's poor performance the past three games.

Danglers Gameday...

5/17/07...The much anticipated battle between the top two teams in the league will take place in a little less than 5 hours.  Your hometown favorite Snipe City Danglers will take on the second place Bustonians at 10:30pm tonight.  At this mornings pre game skate the Danglers lines looked like this:

McDougall     Bergin      Macinnis
D'Agostino     Fanning    N. Scarpaci

      Scola              A. Scarpaci
      Hutcheon        J. Scarpaci

                  Mula

Note: There will be a new name in the lineup for tonight...Paul Scola will join the club, he was the leading scorer for the Foxboro Stars (EJHL) where he had a 19-24-43 line in 45 games.

Through 4 games the Danglers lead the lead in scoring with 29 goals for...Their counterpart Bustonians lead the league with a miniscule 12 goals against through 4 games.

Danglers Weekly...

5/16/07...After a disappointing tie to the Ice Dogs the Danglers had to regroup and get back on the saddle to prepare for what will be their toughest challenge of the season so far on Thursday night.  They will face off against the Bustonians who are 2 and 2 in league play, but loaded with veteran talent such as Mike Pandolfo (Lowell Devils), Tim Kelleher (Ritten Renon-Italy), Pat Aufiero (Augsburg Panthers-Germany) and Eric Brown (Waco Wizards and "Be A Bruin").  Aufiero was also a 3rd round pick of the New York Rangers back in 1999, so the Danglers certainly have their work cut out for them.

"Well I think the tie proved to us that it is possible for us to blow games and even lose games.  Hopefully we won't have another break down like that again, it was something where everyone was just a little too confident going into last week's game." said Andrew Scarpaci, "No one was ready to play from the start and it showed.  Thank god for [Ryan] Mula in net or else we would have been toast in the 1st period."

After a tough two mornings of conditioning over the weekend the Danglers took a few days off to rest and have an optional skate tonight at the teams practice facility.  "They know what is expected of them and last week's performance was simply put, unacceptable.  I felt the need to put a little fear into their minds as far as job security goes on this team and brought in a few new guys to work out with the team to let everyone know that no one is safe.  I had a closed door meeting with the team captains on Monday morning and the captains called a team meeting that was closed to the media on Tuesday afternoon.  From what I understand it lasted almost 2 hours and it wasn't a very happy meeting.  We'll see how they respond this week against one of the top teams in the league." said Team President and General Manager Patrick Conley.

On a lighter note this week marks the first month of the season and as voted on by team officials and the media, goaltender Ryan Mula was named Nike/Bauer Player of the Month.  Over the first month of the season Mula went undefeated with a 3-0-1 record with a 5.5 Goals Against Average and a Save Percentage of .938%.

Game time tomorrow night is 10:30pm in Burlington.

Meet the Danglers...Paul D'Agostino

Last week we introduced you to rookie Chris Macinnis and this week we will feature veteran Paul D'Agostino.  The 22 year old is coming off his first professional hockey season and this is his 3rd season as a Dangler.  Dags, as he is known around the dressing room, has played all over the country throughout his career from juniors right up to pro.  His journey has seen him play juniors in Texas and New York then it was onto UMass Lowell where he played for two seasons in Hockey East.  After his sophomore season he decided a change was in order and agreed to go to training camp with the Providence Bruins in the AHL, from there it was the Lubbock Cotton Kings in the Central Hockey League, Lubbock sent him to the Tulsa Oilers in the CHL, then it was back to Lubbock for a brief stay before a promotion to Pensacola of the East Coast Hockey League.  From Pensacola he was sent to the Trenton Titans where he ended the season.  "It was fun I enjoyed it, I have gotten to see many places and I've met so many different types of people.  A lot of the guys back home think I'm nuts for doing it but it's something I love." said the D'Agostino.

Thoughts from Paul...

On playing with younger brother Nick..."It's real fun getting to play on a team with Nick, I don't remember ever being on the same team as him.  It's funny sometimes I give him pointers and he looks at me like I have no idea what I'm talking about, but then he'll give me pointers and I give him the same look.  Sometimes we don't see eye to eye but it's been real fun so far."

On his first professional season..."It was a learning experience because it's definately a different style of life.  You have to adapt to the amount of downtime you get and the bus trips.  I know what to expect now though so I'm ready to breakout next season."

Danglers see perfect record recieve first blemish...

The Danglers went into last night's game looking to improve to 4 and 0, midway thru the 2nd period they held a 3-1 lead over a team full of former BU, BC and Holy Cross players.  Ryan Mula was playing his best hockey of the summer between the pipes and the Danglers looked to be on pace to that 4 and 0 record.  But three 2nd period goals 2:25 apart for the Ice Dogs deflated the Danglers as the teams went into the 2nd intermission with the Danglers merely holding onto a 4-3 lead.  An entertaining 3rd period saw up and down action with both goalies making numerous spectacular saves trying to give their respective teams the chance to win.  With a little more than a minute remaining in the game the Ice Dogs pulled their goalie, a perfect chip off the wall and out of the Danglers zone by Andrew Scarpaci sprung Scott McDougall and Jeff Fanning on a 2 on 1 with 30 seconds to play.  McDougall made an almost impossible feed to Fanning who saw a gaping wide open net, somehow the puck jumped over Fanning's stick and he was unable to score (the 2nd time he blew a wide open net in 2 weeks).  With 13 seconds remaining the Ice Dogs forced a face off to the left of Mula, a scramble ensued and somehow with only 1.4 seconds remaining an Ice Dog connected to tie the game at 4 a piece.  That's how it ended giving the Danglers their first ugly spot on their record leaving them at 3-0-1 going into next weeks game against the leagues top team the Bustonians.

Jarrett Scarpaci had a goal and assist in the tie, brother Andrew had 2 goals, Fanning rounded out the scoring.  Single assists went to Nathan Scarpaci and Sean Walsh.

It was a somber mood in the locker room.  Here are some quotes from the locker room:

"It sucks, doesn't even feel like a tie it feels like a loss."---Paul D'Agostino

"We didn't come to play we looked awful from the start if it weren't for Mula we would have lost 12-4 and that's being generous.  They were all over us all night.  Hopefully this is our wake up call and we get back up after this it honestly feels like a loss right now."--Scott McDougall

"Guys in that locker room may have been getting too complacent with their jobs on the team.  Everyone was so excited to be 3 and 0.  I want to know what the hell did they accomplish going 3 and 0?  They didn't win anything, they were nobodies and they were acting like NHL All Stars.  They weren't too happy when I told them about the 6am off ice conditioning they have on Saturday and Sunday morning.  There's more than one way to beat down egos and I plan to start with hard work.  I usually don't like to name names but I thought Fanning, Paul D'Agostino, Scott McDougall and Jon Hutcheon were all out to lunch today.  That's scary to see three of our vets just gonezo, not even focused.  Back to square one starting Saturday."--G.M. Patick Conley

"I think it stings, but we gutta realize it isn't a loss we still got a point.  We can't be negative and dwell on it.  We'll go back to work this weekend and get things back together and be ready to go this week."-- Jon Hutcheon

Danglers take on struggling Ice Dogs...

5/10/07- Your undefeated Snipe City Danglers take on a struggling Ice Dogs team tonight at 8pm in Burlington.  The Ice Dogs are 5th in the six team league with a 1 and 2 record, their only win coming against the 0 and 3 Falcons who the Danglers defeated 7-6 on opening night.  The Ice Dogs lost to The Team on opening night by the same 11-4 scote that the Danglers defeated The Team last week to improve to 3 and 0.  "It's early in the season and you never know what's going to happen when you first play a team.  We know they're struggling and they may have a bit of  desparation to turn their season around.  We'll come out and play Danglers hockey as always and hopefully keep this little streak alive." said captain Scott McDougall.

The Danglers will be without rookie Chris Macinnis tonight, after being named player of the game last week Macinnis will spend tonight finishing a final paper for college.  Sean Walsh has been called up from the baby Danglers and will see action in his third game of the season, in the two games he has played in he has 1 assist.

Meet the Danglers...Chris Macinnis...

5/6/07-  Today we will introduce rookie Chris Macinnis to the fans.  Macinnis came the the Danglers after a very successful freshman year at Salem State College, where he was 2nd in points on the team.  A 20 year old forward from Waltham, MA enjoyed a brief stint in the EJHL with the Walpole Stars before jumping to the college ranks.

Birthdate: January 9, 1987
Hometown: Waltham, MA
Favorite TV show: Entourage and Prison Break
Favorite Music: Country (Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Rascal Flatts)
Favorite Movie: Talladega Nights and Slap Shot
Off-Ice Activities: Wiffleball, poker, Working out

Thoughts from Chris...

On his first Danglers training camp..."I was nervous going into the first day, I knew of some of the vets on the team but I didn't know any of them that well.  But they made it a really easy transition for me and now I feel like I'm part of the team."

On his 1st Danglers game..."You know by that time I felt pretty comfortable around the guys and I just went out and played the way I knew how.  It was a close game against the Bentley team, but we were able to pull it out."

On his first public appearance as a Dangler..."Most of us went down to Spring Weekend at UConn and stayed at Jarrett Scarpaci and Scott McDougall's place.  The reception we got from the students down there was heartfelt.  That is until we let Hutcheon get a few brews in him and it went down hill from there especially the second night.  Some of the boys made some sacrifices down there and that's what makes us such a great team. We sacrifice for each other. The captains really know how to show us a good time."

Check back next week to meet Danglers veteran Paul D'Agostino.

And remember game time is 8:10pm this week in Burlington.

Macinnis leads attack in 11-4 win...

5/4/07- The Danglers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first and never looked back.  The leader Scott McDougall started his season off on the right foot scoring on a Nick D'Agostino rebound 2:44 into the first period, Chris Macinnis earned the other assist.  The goal was McDougall's first of the season and the assist was the first point in a Dangler uniform for N. D'Agostino.  From there the boys exploded for 3 more first period goals, Macinnis scored twice just 18 seconds apart from each other, the first strike coming at 4:30 of the period was his first as a Dangler assisted by Jeff Fanning and Jarrett Scarpaci.  Then at 4:48 Macinnis struck again assisted by McDougall and Steve Bergin.  Bergin added his only of the night 35 seconds later on the goal of the year up to date assisted by McDougall and Jon Hutcheon.  In a move that can only be described as unbelievable Bergin was sent in alone and faked a shot, pulling the puck to his backhand then between his stretched out legs and pulled it around the goalie into a wide open net.  The Team added one of their own 6:05 into the first to make the score 4-1 heading into the first intermission.

The Team scored again in the second period at the 2:05 mark to pull within two of the Danglers and it looked as if the Danglers would coast the rest of the way until Andrew Scarpaci was called for a tripping penalty and picked up a double minor for delay of game at the 11:50 mark of the 2nd.  With 1 second remaining on the clock Macinnis scored to finish off the first hat trick of the season with assists going to McDougall and Bergin.  This would set off a barrage of shorthanded goals from the Danglers, 4 shorthanded goals in just a minute and twenty two seconds between the 2nd and 3rd periods.  After 2 periods it was a 5-2 Danglers lead.

But as stated before the Danglers would score 3 more shorthanded goals on the A. Scarpaci penalty.  The second shorty was tallied by Hutcheon 0:32 into the 3rd assisted by J. Scarpaci and Fanning.  12 seconds later it was Paul D'Agostino assisted by J. Scarpaci and Hutcheon.  Then at 1:21 of the 3rd it was Fanning from J.Scarpaci to bring an end to the shorthanded goals and give the Danglers an 8-2 lead.  The Team added a power play goal to pull within 5 and then struck again at the 5:04 mark of the 3rd to cut the Danglers lead in half.  But that was the end of the road for The Team as the Danglers scored 3 unasnwered goals to finish out the game.  Hutcheon scored his second of the night assisted by P. D'Agostino and A. Scarpaci with 6:11 left to play.  Then A. Scarpaci added his first of the year with 5:28 to play assisted by Fanning and P. D'Agostino.  And with 4:07 remaining P. D'Agostino closed the book on scoring with his second of the game assisted by A. Scarpaci and Hutcheon.

Final score Danglers 11 The Team 4

Player of the game: Chris Macinnis- made his second ever Danglers game a memorable one as he finished with a hat trick and an assist.

Play of the game: Steve Bergin breakaway goal.

Quotes from the locker room:

"I think we just played a great overall game, it was nice to be able to relax and watch the boys play in front of me.  Some of the playmaking tonight was just awesome."---goaltender Ryan Mula.

"Getting my first goal as a Dangler felt good, but then to come out of here with a hat trick, that's a great feeling."---Chris Macinnis.

"Winning games is nice, but I'm here to win the scoring title."---Steve Bergin.

"We definately came to play tonight.  We took it easy a little bit in the 2nd period but when they started coming at us we really turned it on in the 3rd and were able to pull away from the victory.  It's good to see that Hutch is finally over his brutal start also."---Jarrett Scarpaci.

Next week game time is at 8:10pm in Burlington against the Ice Dogs.  Check back later this week for our first "Meet the Danglers" installment featuring rookie Chris Macinnis.

Danglers Weekly...

5/3/07- The team has been preparing for the showdown vs. The Team for the past week.  The battle of the only two unbeaten teams takes place tonight at 10:30pm in Burlington.  Tonight will be the first night the Danglers will have a squad full of the actual team, the previous two weeks guys were being called up to fill in some voids.  Tonight captain Scott McDougall and alternate captain Jarrett Scarpaci will each make their first appearances of the season.  Also back in the lineup will be rookies Chris Macinnis and Nathan Scarpaci after missing last weeks game due to finals at Salem State College.

After two games Jeff Fanning leads the team in points with 7, trailing him coming in a close 2nd is Paul D'Agostino who has 5.  Speaking of the D'Agostino's, Nick D'Agostino has been held scoreless thru his first two Danglers games, "It's been a bit of a transition and I've struggled.  But I feel a turnaround coming tonight for sure." said Nick.

Steve Bergin made a splash in his Danglers debut last weekend and was named player of the game for his efforts.  Bergin had 2 goals to go along with 2 assists, one of his goals was the game winner over the Trojans.  "It was a fun experience, I was a little nervous at the start of the game but I settled down nicely." said Bergin.  Another player who was nervous but eventually settled down was goaltender Ryan Mula, who had this to say "I don't know what it's been the past two games I've started out slow, but I've finished strong where it counts in the 3rd period in both games and luckily the boys were able to pull it out for the win."

"Mula has been very sound in net, we know what to expect from him back there and as long as we play our game we'll be fine with him between the pipes this summer." alternate captain Jon Hutcheon on Mula's performance to date.  Hutcheon has scored the first goal in both games this season.  "I struggled in our first game and knew I had to bring more to the table.  I settled down looked at the game tape from game 1 and knew what I had to do to fix things.  Hopefully I'm on track now for the rest of the summer." added Hutcheon.

Come on out to see the boys tonight at 10:30pm vs. The Team

Danglers improve to 2 and 0...

It was a back and forth tilt last night, one in which the Danglers didn't manage to gain a lead until early in the 3rd period.  The Trojans came out like the juggernaut they have been the past few years and were playing like they were the ones who had something to prove to the league.  3:32 into the first period the Trojans were already up 2-0 on 3 shots on a rattled Ryan Mula.  The Danglers came to life on Jon Hutcheon's 2nd goal of the season 5:44 into the first frame unassisted.   It would stay 2-1 Trojans until Jeff Fanning netted his 1st of the game at 9:02 of the first, assisted by Paul D'Agostino.  The tie would not last long however as the Trojans struck back a minute later with a tally of their own and the first period would end 3-2 Trojans.
The Danglers struck first blood in the second period as Paul D'Agostino got his first of the summer at 2:23 to make it 3-3 assists went to Fanning and Steve Bergin.  Again the tie was short lived as the Trojans answered back a minute later on a weak goal between the 5 hole of Mula to regain the lead.  Two minutes after that goal the Danglers tied it up again on another P. D'Agostino assisted by Bergin and Fanning.  It would stay that way until 9:12 of the 2nd when the Trojans again answered back making it 5-4 after 2.
The 3rd period saw a dominating performance by the Danglers as they threw everything on net and it paid off.  Just 37 seconds into the 3rd Bergin scored his first in a Danglers uniform to make it 5-5.  One minute and 5 seconds later Rob Ricci gave the Danglers their first lead of the night assisted by Justin Bonitatibus.  It stayed that way until the Trojans fought back and tied it up with 6:15 left on the clock.  The play went back and forth until there was only 3:21 left and Steve Bergin found the back of the net for his 2nd of the game unassisted.  Bergin's 2nd goal was just enough as the Danglers were able to hold on the last 3 minutes of the game.  Mula stood on his head on 2 partial breakaways and a 5 on 1 with 10 seconds to go in the game, which was caused by a Bergin blunder on a breakaway with an empty net.
When all was said and done and the final buzzer rang the Danglers took the 7-6 win home and improved to 2 and 0 on the young season.  The line of P. D'Agostino, Bergin and Fanning was simply stellar as they combined for 5 of the 7 goals last night.  Player of the game honors go to Steve Bergin as the rookie potted 2 goals and 2 assists in his Danglers debut.  "I was nervous as to how I would play in the first game, I haven't been on the ice in a while and I thought I was going to be rusty.  It took me a period and a half to shake the rust off and I had some brutal turn overs but it got better as the game went on...As far as being named player of the game, that's special to me.  Especially with this being my first game in a Dangler uniform."  said Bergin after the game.
Next weeks game will be played at 10:30pm against The Team.  "We don't know much about them, I remember them from a few seasons ago and if I remember correctly they play a controlled game.  We're going to have to come out hard against them." said Jon Hutcheon.

Danglers set to do battle with Trojans...

For years now the Trojans have been a powerhouse in the Bay State Hockey League, the Danglers were a powerhouse in the New England Senior League but unknowns to the BSHL.  Tomorrow night the two teams will faceoff for the first of 5 meetings this summer in Burlington, the puck drops at 9:20pm.

After last weeks strong showing Jim Toomey will be out of the lineup for 3 weeks while he finishes up school and prepares for graduation.  Also out of the lineup will be Chris Macinnis and Nathan Scarpaci, who will miss the game for finals at Salem State College.  Captain Scott McDougall is listed as questionable for tomorrow night as he is still battling ankle problems.  "I'm going to see the doctor tomorrow morning to see if I can get it drained and be ready to go, but right now it doesn't look good." said Scott.

With the unusual amount of players out of the lineup the Danglers called in a familiar face to the Snipe City family.  Justin Bonitatibus will be in action tomorrow night fresh off his freshman campaign at Merrimack College.  "I wasn't sure if I was going to come back this summer and it's still up in the air whether this will turn into a full season contract, but I can't wait to get back out there with the boys...I was very excited when I got the call this morning and told them if they were asking me to come back to my roots I couldn't wait.  Tomorrow night will be fun." said Bonitatibus.

Making his Dangler debut tomorrow night will be UConn recruit Steve Bergin.  He was unavailable for comment after the morning skate yesterday, but he will be on the ice with alternate captain Jon Hutcheon Wednesday night at the teams practice facility.  Speaking of Hutcheon there were some harsh words thrown around the message boards after his poor performance last week and the Danglers are hoping he pulls out of his slump.  "Hutch is a guy we expected to do big things this season and last week he came out looking like a squirt.  It's unacceptable and he needs to turn things around this week.  Otherwise he may find himself on the trade rumor circuit."  said his defense partner Andrew Scarpaci.

Danglers open season with a win...

It started out ugly, after two periods the Danglers were trailing a very solid Falcons team.  Luckily for the Danglers goaltender Ryan Mula came to play and shut down the Falcons of Bentley College in the 3rd period and gave the Danglers a chance to win.  Led by 2nd year veteran Jim Toomey the Danglers came back to win 7-5, Toomey led everyone in scoring with a 2-2-4 line followed up by Jeff Fanning who had a 1-2-3 line.  Other goal scorers included Jon Hutcheon, Nathan Scarpaci and Paul D'Agostino.
Key players Jarrett Scarpaci, Scott McDougall and rookie Steve Bergin were missing from action.  Scarpaci and McDougall, both seniors at UConn were tied up with previous commitments at school.  Bergin will be in the lineup this Thursday night against the Trojans, Scarpaci should be, but it is unknown whether McDougall will be.  McDougall has been battling an ankle injury for a while now and is hoping it will be ready for action Thursday.
Stats will be updated soon.

Game time Thursday is 9:20pm in Burlington.

Opening Night just 9 days away...

Are you ready for another exciting season of Snipe City Danglers hockey action?  Now with the team being closer to the fan base the players expect a big turnout for opening night next Thursday April 19th.  Game time is 10:30pm at the Burlington Ice Palace.  The fun starts at 8:30pm though as players will be on hand in the parking lot with plenty of party games for the fans entertainment before the game.  "We always try to give back to the fans and this is a way for us to say thank you to them.  We'll be out there before the game having a big kickoff party with them." says Andrew Scarpaci.
The late start is part of being a new team in the league.  "We understand we have to pay our dues and we will be getting better times as the summer goes on.  We just hope this doesnt affect our attendance." says team president Pat Conley, "The boys are ready to go I know that for a fact.  Most of them haven't skated much over the past couple weeks, other than some of the guys getting together to play some pickup hockey.  The first game should be interesting."
The fans are excited also, as the team returns back to the Bay State Hockey League many new faces will be able to see the team in action for the first time ever.  "I can't wait to finally get to see the boys in action.  I've heard so much about them the past few summers from Scott, Dags and Hutch but I've never got a chance to see them play in a game.  It's very exciting and I'm ready to go." said Brad Sukeforth of Merrimack College.

Puck drops at 10:30pm

Scott McDougall returns for his 3rd season as captain of the team.  He will graduate from UConn this May after a very solid career in a Husky uniform.  This past season he appeared in 33 games posting a 5-7-12 line.  Throughout 4 seasons at UConn he played in 89 games and posted a 22-21-43 line.
Jon Hutcheon returns for his 3rd season as alternate captain.  He is coming off his first professional season, he played on 5 separate teams, the latest being the Danville Pounders of the NEHL.  He played in 9 games this season posting a 3-7-10 line and was named to the NEHL all-star game.
Jarrett Scarpaci is also back for his 3rd season and first as alternate captain.  He will also graduate from UConn this May where he had 3 goals and 11 points in 32 games this season.  Over the course of 4 season as a Husky he played in 75 games and put up a 7-17-24 line.
Paul D'Agostino is coming off his first year in pro hockey.  He also suited up for 5 teams this season, his last being the Trenton Titans of the ECHL.  In 22 games this season Dags posted a 1-1-2 line.
Andrew Scarpaci rounds out the 3 year veterans.  He has been out of organized hockey since his senior year in high school in 2004.  Last summer Bones led Dangler defensemen in points with a 11-23-34 line in 13 games.
Jeff Fanning will be back for his 2nd season in a Danglers uniform.  Jeff had a solid summer last year and was a rookie for the Junior A Tier 3 National Champion New Hampshire Junior Monarchs this season.  In 35 games Fanning posted a 10-8-18 line and will further his playing career at Bowdoin University next season.
Jim Toomey will also be back for his 2nd season with the team.  He is finishing up his post-graduate year at Kimball Union Academy where he had 10 goals and 23 points, good enough to earn him a spot on St. Anselm's roster for next season.
Bryan Calabro will also be back for his 2nd season.  After a somewhat disappointing summer last year plagued by back problems he hopes this summer will be different.  "Towards the end of the summer I felt real good and it carried into my season at Worcester State so hopefully everything will fall into place this summer."

Other Billerica guys Evan Spencer and Nathan Scarpaci were still negotiating contracts.  More to come on the news with those guys

In net you'll see a duo of Merrimack bound Ryan Mula who bounced around the junior circuit this season and hopes to find a home with the Warriors next year.  Sharing duties between the pipes with Mula with be 18 year old Todd Rowley who also is finishing up his PG year and Kimball Union and is making a decision between American International College and Sioux City of the USHL for next season.

Danglers Weekly report...

For the week of 2/12/2007

It was another busy week as the summer season is rapidly approaching.  The Danglers have announced that they have joined the Bay State Hockey Elite League on Thursday nights at the Burlington Ice Palace.  "The Danglers have a storied background and a talent laden roster.  For them to play in the "B" league down here would be a waste of their time, we feel they can make a splash this summer in our elite division." said league owner Rick Nadeau.

Also in the news the Danglers have announced the additions of goaltender Ryan Mula and defensman Mike Cornell.  Mula, 20, will be the go to guy the first month of the season as regular number 1 goaltender Todd Rowley will be unavailable due to boarding school.  Mula has spent time in the USHL and the NAHL this season and is preparing to go to Merrimack College as a freshman next fall.  "Adding Ryan was really a no brainer, he comes to us on the recommendation of his goalie coach Brian Daccord and we've seen a bit recently so I think he'll really help us out the first few games and the rest of the summer when we need him." said Alternate captain Jarrett Scarpaci.
Cornell, 18, has re-signed with the team for the whole summer after his try-out contract from last season.  He has been a rock solid defenseman in the tough EJHL this season and looks to keep turning heads this summer.  "When Hutch called me a week ago and told me they wanted me back I had no choice but to say yes.  Any time you get this type of chance with a team this good you have to jump on it." said Cornell

Four Danglers were in action over the weekend with forwards Jarrett Scarpaci and Scott McDougall highlighting the list leading UConn to two victories over Bentley and possibly securing a home ice berth in the Atlantic Hockey playoffs.  Scarpaci had the game winning assist on Friday night and was a plus 1 on the weekend.  McDougall, who has been battling illness, was a minus 1 on the weekend with 3 shots.
Forward Jeff Fanning was in the lineup for the New Hampshire Monarchs in their 3-2 win on Thursday afternoon racking up 2 PIM.  So far this season Fanning has 15 points thru 30 games and has recently committed to Bowdoin University for next fall.  And rounding out the Danglers in action was Jon Hutcheon who signed with his 5th team this season and suited up for the Danville Pounders against his previous squad the Danbury Stars on Saturday night.  Although Danville took a pounding Hutcheon scored his first professional goal and added an assist along with a 5 minute major for fighting.  Thru  games this season Hutcheon has 1 goal and 5 assists to go along with 27 PIM

D'Agostino returns home, Bonitatibus ends discussions...

Forward Paul D'Agostino (pictured) has returned home from the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the East Coast Hockey League.  After being summoned back to Lubbock of the Central Hockey League three weeks ago he was released and picked up by the Ice Pilots.  After spending a game with Pensacola he was released to make room for a player picked up via trade.  Through 15 total games this season on four different clubs he has picked up 1 goal and 1 assist to go along with 2 PIM.

On a different front Justin Bonitatibus has ended negotiations with the Dirty Boys in what he states "I never really was truly considering playing for them.  It's just unacceptable that would be like Curt Schilling signing with the Yankees.  It won't happen."  Hopefully the Danglers will be able to wrap him up soon.  Stay tuned for more news.

Fan Favorite may re-sign...

Alternate Captain and fan favorite Justin Bonitatibus has announced to club officials that he may re-sign with the club as soon as next week.  "It's been a tough go at it this winter, the talks with the Dirty Boys have really heated up and the Danglers have always been around not pressuring me into anything.  I appreciate that and I will do my best to give them my decision as soon as possible."

Fanning Signs...

Jeff Fanning, an 18 year old forward, has finally signed in what looks like the last Dangler from last summer's squad who will return this season.  "It's good to finally sign my contract.  It took longer than expected and wasn't sure if it was going to happen, things were getting really tense.  But I'm glad to be back this summer and the next few to come." said an excited Fanning.  Jeff is enjoying his rookie season in the Eastern Junior Hockey League for the New Hampshire Monarchs, where in 19 games he has a 4-5-9 line with 6 PIM.  "We really expect Jeff to have a big summer for us this year.  His goal production needs to be up this summer after he struggled a bit last year.  But his big body and a year of seasoning in the EJ should really help him get ready for the season." said Alternate Captain Jon Hutcheon.
The Danglers are scouting for the 9th and final forward spot and hope to have their final signing for the summer within the next few weeks.  Also stay tuned as this spring the Danglers will be announcing at least one tournament to the schedule.

Free Agency looming...

The deadline for the Danglers to sign their remaining free agents is a week away and they still have high profile guys unsigned.  Topping the list is last years 3rd leading scorer Justin Bonitatibus, who has made it known that he will be testing the free agent waters this winter.  Along with Bonitatibus, defenseman Chris Diozzi will also test the waters.  "We know those two are a package deal and we tried signing them a few weeks ago, but they're strong on wanting to get out there and see their options.  So as an organization we will honor the fact that they want to see what's out there, but have made it clear to Chris, Justin and the rest of our free agents that we aren't promising these guys spots after January 1st, 2007." said team captain Scott McDougall.
Along with Bonitatibus and Diozzi, Jeff Fanning is still at large and talks are ongoing with his agent Scott Boras.  Boras is demanding not only a guaranteed contract but many other perks for Fanning including a personal trainer and massage therapist.
Also at large is forward Dennis McCauley, who hasn't spoken with the Danglers front office since last summer.

Danglers add veteran D'Agostino...

The Danglers have come to terms with forward Paul D'Agostino, a veteran to the summer ranks with the Danglers and the now defunct Stars.  D'Agostino, 22, is in the midst of his rookie season in the Central Hockey League.  He started the season at the Providence Bruins (AHL) training camp and was sent to the Lubbock Cotton Kings in the CHL, after spending 7 games with Lubbock he was sent to the Tulsa Oilers where in 5 games he notched 1 goal and 1 assist.  He is now back home for the holidays awaiting his next contract.
D'Agostino played 2 games with the Danglers last summer putting up a 4-2-6 line.  It was in the Bay State Hockey League with the Stars that Paul really played big.  The summer of 2004 started it all for this team, but was where D'Agostino burst onto the scene when he put up close to 30 points with the Stars in 12 games.  That same offensive output is expected this summer with the Danglers.

Danglers informal skate...

Four Danglers took to the Tully Forum ice this morning during an open hockey session.  Forwards Mark Morreale and Jim Toomey, Defenseman Jon Hutcheon, and Goalie Todd Rowley all hit the ice looking to keep their legs going over the Christmas break.  Some local prospects also joined them for the skate, Evan Spencer(Stonehill College), Rob Fanning(Elmira College) and Jay Forte(Bryant).

Danglers add forward Bates, dman Crowley...

The Danglers came to a contract agreement with forward Mark Bates over the weekend.  Bates is the 8th player to commit to the team for the summer season.  He is in the midst of his first season at Salem State College after a brief stint at UMass Boston, where he was teammates with Jon Hutcheon during the 2004-05 season.  The two were also part of the top 36 contingent for the "Be A Bruin" finalists.  "Batesy will really help us out up front, he's solid and a great playmaker." said Hutcheon
Another signing over the weekend was that of young defenseman Jim Crowley.  The 18 year old defenseman has been on the Danglers radar for about a year now and management feels as though the senior at Pomfret School is ready to make the jump to the summer ranks.  "He's a steady dman who can really move the puck.  Even though he's young we're looking to him to be alot like Mike Cornell last season. We brought Mike along slowly last summer and he really emerged into a top notch guy." said Scott McDougall.
Both were inked to entry level contracts, but as per team rules terms will not be open to the public.
The Danglers continue to load up on talent for the season which is quickly approaching as the summer season starts at the end of April in Burlington.

Danglers add power forward...

Nick Yetten has agreed to an entry level contract with the Danglers.  The 6'1" 195lbs left wing from Westford, MA played for Johnson and Wales University last season and spent two seasons with the Boston Harborwolves of the Eastern Junior Hockey League before that.  The 22 year old has since retired and is now attending school at Bentley College.
Yetten should provide offensive spark to the Danglers second line this summer with his size, speed and grit.  A kid who is known for his pride never takes a shift off.  "Yetten played a game for us last season and his presence was felt the whole game.  It's good to have him for the whole summer this time around." said returning captain Scott McDougall.

Brotherly love...

The dynamic duo of Jarrett and Andrew Scarpaci have re-signed with the Danglers thru the 2009 season.  Andrew, a 20 year-old defenseman, was re-signed earlier last week and has been talking everyday to Jarrett trying to get him to re-sign with the club.  Jarrett, a 22 year-old forward, is enjoying his senior year at UConn where thru 12 games he has a 1-3-4 line.  The elder Scarpaci wasn't sure if he would re-sign with the club right away, but with the pressure of roommate Scott McDougall and Andrew along with the January 1st team appointed deadline, Jarrett and his agent Nick Scarpaci thought this would be a good time to pound out a long term deal.

Winter negotiations add up to summer sizzle...

Seems like only yesterday the summer was coming to an end in August and the boys were headed back to school, jobs or the pros.  But as the winter air gets colder the talk of this upcoming summer heats up.  Back for a second season will be your beloved Snipe City Danglers, this time at a location much closer to home, the Burlington Ice Palace.  "It's nothing against the league in Marlboro, it's just that location wise I think it's better for our guys and our fanbase as well.  We have a strong following in the Billerica area and we should be able to get plenty of fans to the games now." says alternate captain Jon Hutcheon, who just re-signed a multi-year deal last night.  "We have a great core coming back from our team from last summer so it should be another successful season."
It's a very hectic time of the year as the Danglers are trying to lock up many of their stars before January 1st comes and players without contracts become free agents.  "It's always a tough time of year you don't want to lose anyone, but at the same time some guys need to be let go to make room for some better talent." said captain Scott McDougall.

All in a brother's tale...

Nick and Paul D'Agostino have also been close no matter how far the distance between them has been.  The past couple years they have grown accustomed to living thousands of miles apart mostly due to Paul's suitcase style of following hockey where ever it took him.  Which is why it was slightly off course this season for Paul to be home while Nick was playing 1500 miles away in Dallas, TX.  However, now that Nick has just arrived home after the season it is now Paul who is back on the road.  This time on his way to Trenton, NJ to sign with the Trenton Titans of the ECHL, it will be his 5th team this season.

"It's funny the way hockey takes us everywhere, I mean here I am ready for the summer season, my first with the Danglers, and now Paulie is off again to wrap up the coast league season with Trenton.  It will be good for him, plus it will give me some time to shine in training camp with the Danglers away from his shadow until he gets back." said Nick when asked about his older brothers career moves.  When he was asked about his rookie season with the Danglers he had this to say "I understand I'm a rookie and that I'm not the franchise, it's a little humbling, but hey we all go thru that at some point in our careers.  Coming to such a deep team I just play to play and I know my role and I think that is why the fans respect a blue collar guy like me."

We'll just have to wait and see if this brother tandem can be as dynamic as the Scarpaci duo was last season.

A number of changes....

With the summer season right around the corner the Danglers made a number of changes.  A minor one being that Nick D'Agostino will most likely wear #55 instead of #61.  A major change shakes up the front office and will alleviate much stress from Co-founders Scott McDougall and Jon Hutcheon, as the two announced today the hiring of Patrick Conley as the teams President and General Manager.  "Pat will be in charge of the day to day front office stuff along with the game day preparations, stuff like the Ice Girls.  He's a great kid and he's really ready to take this to the next level." said Jon Hutcheon.  More will follow on this breaking news story.

Updates, signings and training camp roster....

With the calendar turning to March this past week the summer season is only weeks away.  With that we will bring you all new updates on players, let you know who's playing where and also announce our finalized training camp roster of 22 players for the upcoming summer.

A few of the boys are still playing in their regular seasons, forwards Scott McDougall and Jarrett Scarpaci have their eyes fixed on winning the Atlantic Hockey championships, if they help UConn achieve that feat they will be national bound to the NCAA Regionals later this month.  Forward Jeff Fanning is currently playing in the Eastern Junior Hockey League's play-offs trying to help his regular season champions New Hampshire Monarchs into post season glory.  That will be no easy task with fellow Dangler dman Mike Cornell playing against Fanning in a first round match-up between Cornell's Foxboro Stars.

After McDougall and J. Scarpaci finish up their run with the UConn Huskies they will quickly turn their attention to their first pro game as they have agreed to sign on with the Danville Pounders of the NEHL for their March 31st game against the Danbury Stars in Danbury, CT.  In Danbury the two will be joined by fellow Danglers Jon Hutcheon,  who was just recently named to the NEHL all-star game, Paul D'Agostino, who will suit up for his 5th team this season, and Andrew Scarpaci, who will be playing in his first professional game along side brother Jarrett.

A number of guys have finished up their seasons.  Justin Bonitatibus had a tough freshman season, putting up 4 points in 33 games for a struggling Merrimack College.  Nick D'Agostino found out what junior hockey was all about in the Western States Hockey League, back here on the east coast Jim Toomey(10-13-23) and Todd Rowley(.899 save %, 1.82GAA) finished up their post-grad years at Kimball Union Academy.

Training Camp Central

Dates, times and agendas for training camp have yet to be determined due to the uncertainty of some of the players schedules with the end of their seasons still looming.

Along with the 13 skaters under contract for this summer the team has invited 7 players to training camp on a tryout basis.  "The reason we invited so many guys to this season's training camp is we need to find guys who can fill the void later in the season when the injury bug strikes.  Plus you never know with the group we're bringing in some of our guys under contract may lose their jobs."  said player coach Mark Morreale.  "Guys like Chris Macinnis from Salem St. and Evan Spencer who's a Billerica boy really have a great chance at making the club and earning a contract. Other than that I mean we invited some quality players like Chet Ferreira who bounced around the East Coast Hockey League and Sean Walsh who was a standout at Tewksbury High a few years back.  We sent out invites to Justin Bonitatibus who was our alternate captain last season and we hope he shows up to camp and signs right away but who knows.  We can't rely on one guy anymore, but other than those guys we invited Nathan Scarpaci who will be a good guy to have on the inactive roster for when we need him and a kid like Chris Murphy who was unbelievable for the University of Tennessee this season where he put up 61 points in only 22 games.  We know Murph won't be home til mid-May so we'll look at him in some games and go from there."

"You know I think we're going to be better this summer than last year, we lost a few guys but overall I think we added alot of depth.  I can't wait to get the season going we've all been looking forward to it since Christmas time." said Andrew Scarpaci.

Top Seed on the Line...

The game everyone has been waiting for is just a little more than 24 hours away.  Your first place Danglers will take on the second place Boozehounds in a game that will decide which team takes the top seed going into the playoffs.  Two and a half months have passed since the Danglers last lost in the NESHL summer league, the team that dealt them that crushing 6-4 defeat were the Boozehounds.  Since then the Danglers are rolling on a 9 game winning streak while scoring an unprecedented 137 goals in 13 games.  On the flip side the Boozehounds have the lowest goals against in the league giving up just 38 goals in 13 games.  14 of those 38 goals have been scored by the Danglers.  "They're the best team we have ever played against down here, they have speed and they control the play very well.  However, we feel like they have had weak goaltending the past two games we've played against them so we're hoping we can exploit that and regain first place." said Boozehounds captain Brett Smith
The Danglers are on pace to score 158 goals this season, but will be without two of their big guns from last week who led them to an 11-8 win over Maynard.  Captain Scott McDougall and Jim Toomey will both miss tomorrow night's game.  McDougall, league leader in points with 26 goals, 43 points in 9 games, will be out with inflammation in his right wrist.  And Toomey will be out the rest of the season after leaving for school tonight.  "It's a big blow we've been dealt with not having Scott tomorrow night, he led the way last week and it's unfortunate we'll be without our leader.  Some guys are going to have to step up, including myself and it will be a big help to have Bonitatibus back in the lineup." said Alternate Captain Jon Hutcheon
"We're a team here but I was upset I had to miss last week's game and fall behind in the points race to Scotty, luckily he won't be there so I'll be able to make up some ground tomorrow night." said Justin Bonitatibus (20-20-40) who will be wearing the captain's C tomorrow in McDougall's place.
At the opposite end of the spectrum Nathan Scarpaci will play in his 2nd game of the season and is still looking for his first point in a Dangler uniform.  "It's tough, all my life I've lived in my brothers' shadows and now I come here and Jarrett has 41 points and Andrew has 34, I just want to get a few tomorrow and make a name for myself." said the youngest Scarpaci rostered on the team Nathan.  The trio of brothers are all represented by the same agent, their youngest brother Nick.
The personal rivalry between Boozehounds captain Brett Smith and Danglers alternate captain Jon Hutcheon will once again burn thick.  The two previously spent a week playing with and against each other at Bruins prospects camp and will once again do battle for the NESHL regular season crown.
Game time is 8:20pm tomorrow night on rink 1. Edit Text

Danglers jump on Captain's back, limp to 11-8 win...

After the worst 2 periods in Danglers history captain Scott McDougall rallied the troops going into the 3rd period.  The boys took the 3rd place Maynard team lightly and it showed on the scored board, after the first frame Maynard held a 5-2 lead and after two periods of play Maynard was up 7-5.  "It's a classic case of us thinking all we had to do was show up and they were going to give us the win.  We knew they were fighting for a playoff spot and they battled us hard." said Andrew Scarpaci who chipped in 2 assists on the night.
The story of the night by far is the Danglers record set tonight by McDougall.  He has had two 5 goal games this season already but tonight he took it up to another level as he took the team on his back and put up a 6 spot against a tough Maynard goalie.  "I was surprised at how bad we were playing tonight and I didn't want to lose to that team, so I did what I had to do tonight.  But I don't want to take all the glory here, none of my goals were unassisted so without my teammates getting me the puck I wouldn't have been able to score those goals."  said an estatic McDougall after the game.  McDougall now has 43 points on the season to lead the league.
Another highlight of the night was the stellar goal scoring by Jim Toomey who had 3 goals and 1 assist in what is assumed to be his last game this summer before he goes away to school.  "I wanted to go out with a bang and I got a lucky bounce to get our first goal and the puck was just bouncing my way tonight.  I had a great time this summer and can't wait to do it all over again."
Along with McDougall taking over the points race, Jarrett Scarpaci hit the 40 point plateau with a goal and 3 assists to give him 41 points this season.  His younger brother Andrew now sits with 34 points on the season and Jon Hutcheon had 3 assists which allowed him to hit the 30 point plateau.  "It's been an amazing summer, we have 3 forwards with 40 points or more and 2 defensemen with 30 plus points.  We've said it all along that we have firepower and this just proves it and we still have 2 more regular season games." said Andrew Scarpaci.
Also someone deserving his honor is young rookie defenseman Mike Cornell from the Foxboro Stars, the young 18 year old has only been able to make 4 games this season due to a committment with the Mass Satellite Overage camp.  But, in those 4 games he has really showed terrific improvement.  "We knew he could be an impact player from the start and after his first two games he really settled down and came into his own." said Scott McDougall.  In the past 2 games Cornell has netted 8 points on two back to back games with a goal and 3 assists in each game giving him 11 points in 4 games.
Game time next week is 8:20pm on rink 1 against the 2nd place Boozehounds for the top seed going into the playoffs. Edit Text

Danglers, Maynard ready for round 3...

Tomorrow night your first place Danglers will take on a struggling Maynard team who is still fighting for a playoff berth.  Maynard sits tied for 3rd place with the Bears, each team holds a 4-8-0 record.  A win tomorrow night could solidify a berth for Maynard, however a loss could put them out of playoff contention.  "They're a team who has to play play-off hockey the rest of the way.  Teams like that can be dangerous, it'll be a good test for us." said Jarrett Scarpaci, who will look to continue his scoring ways after his 6 point effort last week vs. the Bears.  Game time is 10:10pm on rink 3.

In other news the team would like to send out a big hello to Rob and Lisa who head the New Hampshire based Danglers fan club.  "I was able to go up and skate with them on Monday night in Hooksett at an adult skills session they do that my father runs.  It was nice and kind of grounded me, as big time guys in college and above we sometimes take hockey for granted and these adults are just learning how to play.  It was fun to go back to square one and be able to give them some pointers on what to do in certain situations." said Jon Hutcheon.  "It's cool to think that they are always checking the website to see how we're doing each week."
There are about 10 people in the fan club and they are hoping to make it to a Danglers playoff game.  "It was great to get the chance to hang out with Jon he's a great guy." added Rob.  Team Owner Shawn Hutcheon who runs the adult skills session let Jon run the practice and said he gives the adults updates every week on the team.  Thanks for following us guys. Summer Season ending, players looking forward...

With the summer season winding down, the players on the Danglers are gearing up for their regular seasons.  What that means for opposing clubs for the remaining games of the NESHL summer league is watch out.  "We don't have alot of time left before we all move on to our regular seasons so I think most of us are going to be picking up the pace little by little until we are almost going full speed the last week of the season, which is hopefully the championship game." said captain Scott McDougall.
Three Danglers will be rookies this season, Andrew Scarpaci, Jon Hutcheon and Justin Bonitatibus will all be the youngsters on their teams.  Scarpaci will join a Salem State College team this season that struggled a bit last year.  "They lost alot of veterans after the season, so I hope it's a chance for me to step right in and make an impact." said the younger Scarpaci.  Bonitatibus is in a similiar situation as he enters his first year in the highly competitive Hockey East with Merrimack.  "They struggled alot the past couple seasons so it should be really exciting to hopefully be part of the team that turns the program around."  offered an anxious Bonitatibus.  Hutcheon is in a bit of a different boat as he prepares to take on his first full season of pro hockey with the expansion Rocky Mountain Rage, "A couple months ago I knew nothing about the league and then I got the offer to go play and I looked into, it's a great league with every team having an AHL affiliation is should be a great place to start." said Hutcheon.
Three other players will enter their sophomore seasons and look to take on a more responsible role for their teams.  Dennis McCauley of Northeastern, Chris Diozzi of Trinity and Bryan Calabro of Worcester State all feel as though they got a feel for their respective leagues last season and want to build on their successful freshmen campaigns.  "I feel as though I entered last year not knowing what to expect, but now I know what is needed to have a very strong season and hope to do just that." said Diozzi.  Calabro added this "Last year I just hoped my back could make it through the whole season without acting up, now that I know that it isn't a problem I've been working hard with Hutch to make sure I play my way into a leadership role."  The other sophomore to be, Dennis McCauley, will look to play with more consistency throughout the whole season, "I felt like the first half of the year I was trying to get my legs under me and had a great second half of the year.  So now I just want to pick up where I left off."
The veterans of the collegiate ranks are also teammates and housemates at the University of ConneticutJarrett Scarpaci and Scott McDougall will live together again for the third year in a row and will join UConn as seniors this season.  Both have hinted that this may be their last season of competitive hockey and want to make it a memorable one.  "UConn Hockey is something that not a lot of people take seriously, but that doesn't mean we don't want to win.  Hopefully this season can be a fun one and we can pick up some wins." said McDougall.  Scarpaci also added "Just getting the chance to say we played college hockey is cool, but now we want to say we left a mark on the hockey program at UConn so hopefully we can come out of this season with a good amount of wins."
With 2 more summer games left plus playoffs the boys have plenty of time to get ready for the season and that can only mean one thing.  The fans of the Danglers have yet to see this teams best hockey. Edit Text

Big Three lead the way...

With only 7 players and a goalie the Danglers had to fight to extend their winning streak to 8 last night.  With the efforts of Justin Bonitatibus, Scott McDougall and Jarrett Scarpaci that was not a problem as the three players combined for 9 goals and 18 points in a 12-8 win over the Bears.  Jon Hutcheon chipped in 1 goal and 2 assists, Andrew Scarpaci had 2 goals and an assist and Mark Bates and Chris Diozzi had 2 helpers each.  "It's crunch time, we don't want to lose our top spot.  We want to go into the playoffs flying high in first place." said Hutcheon.  Diozzi added this. "This was true summer hockey, we only had 7 guys and we just came out laughed and had fun, but turned it on when we needed to and came out with the win."
The 12 goal outburst propelled the Danglers to 126 goals for in 12 games, something that has never been seen in the NESHL summer leagues.  "This is a summer league record, and they still have 2 games to play.  They're a special group of players, truly fun to watch." said league commisioner Jim Lawler. Bonitatibus and McDougall battle early season adversity...

It wasn't an easy start to the season for two of the three captains of this seasons Danglers squad.  For captain Scott McDougall it was battling thru grueling physical therapy to stregthen his wrist after surgery just weeks before opening night.  For alternate captain Justin Bonitatibus it was dealing with the transition from the EJHL to the slower pace of the NESHL and not having the puck bounce his way.  Both players are in the top 3 in league scoring, Bonitatibus leads all scorers now with 17-17-34, as McDougall has a 17-13-30 line good for 3rd overall.

Since the 5th game of the season when both were put on the same line the two have flourished.  It was after a loss to the Boozehounds in the 4th game of the season that Bonitatibus realized he had to bring much more to the team to make the Danglers a championship caliber club.  "I was struggling til we lost that game, then it really hit me I needed to pick it up."  With just 7 points thru 4 games he put his mind to it and has scored 27 points in the last 7 games.  "Playing with Scotty I don't know what it is, we just click."

After missing the first two games of the year, McDougall started slow as well.  With just 2 points in his first game back he knew he would have to start playing with more intensity to be successful.  "I was hesitating when I took a shot, hoping not to tweak anything in the wrist.  And I knew I wasn't going to score much or help this team at all by not ripping shots."  After that he scored 4 points against the Boozehounds, then set a Dangler record with a 5 goal, 8 point night against YYZ and then put up another 5 goal, 7 point night against the Bears two weeks later.  "Scott has an uncanny knack to find the back of the net, he has a heavy and accurate shot making it tough for any goalie to stop." said goaltender Ryan McCauley.

With 3 games left in the regular season and these two really hitting their stride it isn't out of reach to have a possible 50 point guy in Bonitatibus and a 25 goal man in McDougall.  "The two of them just really bonded this summer and have been unstoppable lately.  It seems like whoever we throw out there on the wing with them blends right in because of the talent between Scott and Justin, they just make the players around them better." said alternate captain Jon Hutcheon. Danglers roll past Sticky Bandits...

With the returns of Mike Cornell and Mark Morreale to the Danglers lineup, as well as Ryan McCauley playing outstanding in net, the Danglers steamrolled the Sticky Bandits last night by a score of 15-3. "It's just all coming together at the right time for us." said Captain Scott McDougall. The Danglers were led by Morreale and Jon Hutcheon. Morreale came back from a 6 week absense, but looked as though he never missed a beat as he pumped home four goals and added two assists for a career night. Hutcheon also had a career night with 2 goals and 4 assists, and gives Hutcheon 10 points in the past 2 games. Once again alternate captain Justin Bonitatibus looked to move ahead in the points race and succeeded tonight with another 5 point night to give him 34 total points on the season, now 3 ahead of Jarrett Scarpaci, the previous leader from week one all the way to last night. Four Danglers racked up 4 points, Cornell came back hard and chipped in a goal and 3 assists, as did McDougall. Jim Toomey, who was rumored to have left the team earlier this week came back to put on a 2 goal 2 assist show and prove he can play with the best of them. The other player with 4 points was Andrew Scarpaci, who threw in 4 assists to keep himself very much alive in the points standings.
"What was great about tonight was we finally were able to limit the other teams offensive chances and played some decent defense in front of Juvi." said Jarrett Scarpaci who chipped in a goal and assist of his own. Chris Diozzi and Jeff Fanning rounded out the scoring with 2 points a piece.
The great goaltending from McCauley started in the first with a great stick save on a penalty shot and continued on throughout the game. "Sometimes those are the toughest games to play in, we were on fire in the offensive zone and I had to make sure I stayed focused all night. The Bandits weren't getting many shots on me but I knew I had to make the saves when they did come down on a few 3 on 1's and 3 on 0's. Overall I thought we played excellent, this last month of the regular season should be a great one." said McCauley. With only 3 games to go the Danglers are still in first place with an overall record of 10 wins and just 1 loss and an astounding 114 goals for, which is just over 10 goals per game.
Jarrett Scarpaci got the scoring started just 40 seconds into the game with an end to end rush. Followed by a Morreale goal assisted by Toomey 35 seconds later. After that Bonitatibus got on the board scoring two goals in a row, the first one was assisted by McDougall and Cornell the second one from Diozzi and McDougall. The Bandits finally managed to get on the board 6:52 seconds into the first frame after a costly turn over by Jon Hutcheon just inside his blueline. Although Hutcheon quickly redeemed himself by setting up Jim Toomey's first of the night 2 minutes later. To round out the adventuresome first McDougall added his one and only with 2 seconds remaining to give the Danglers a 6-1 lead after 1 period of play.
There were no signs of let up from the Danglers over the next two periods as the team banged home 5 and 4 goals respectively in the 2nd and 3rd periods.
Now to the play of the game, it was a goal scored with just 18 seconds remaining in the game on a long feed from Andrew Scarpaci, Mark Morreale caught a pass just feet from the Bandits blueline and was in all alone. After one deke to the backhand Morreale put the puck and stick between his legs and roofed a shot off the crossbar and in to seal the deal. Was it a bit of showboating? Of course, but who can argue with Mark all he wants is his well deserved hockey glory.
But, with every good play comes a bad play and tonight's goes to Jeff Fanning. While using a new stick and trying to blame it all on that, Fanning could not put the puck in the net, if it were a 2 dollar hooker with her legs open he still would have missed. He had 4 prime scoring oppotunities in one shift but could not bury the puck.

Next game is a rare Monday night game at 9:30 against the Bears on rink 1. Edit Text

Forward Jim Toomey leaves team...

As of this afternoon 18 year old forward Jim Toomey will no longer be with the team after he asked for his release from the Danglers.  It came as some surprise to team management but GM/Coach Mark Morreale had this to say, "Sometimes players feel they have outgrown the program and I think this is what happened with Jim.  It was time to part ways after he asked for his release.  We wish him the best this upcoming season at KUA."  The forward had a 6-13-19 line through 7 games this summer with the Danglers. Danglers too strong for YYZ again...

On paper YYZ was much overmatched but that didn't stop them from coming out hard in the first period of play and even scoring the first 2 goals of the game. However after the Danglers, who had a week off, gathered themselves and found their stride the boys were too much for YYZ to handle and ended the night with a 10-6 win and are still riding high on a 6 game winning streak.
YYZ struck first at 1:26 and again at 2:19 but those were the only 2 goals the Danglers would surrender through the 1st two periods and it was then that the Danglers scored 9 straigh goals in the first and second periods. Justin Bonitatibus caught and tied Jarrett Scarpaci for the points lead on the team after Bonitatibus chipped in a 2-3-5 night. Newcomer Chris Murphy scored 2 and assisted on 2 and defenseman Jon Hutcheon added 4 assists. Joe Ahern got his first and second goals of the season 1:57 apart in the second period, both were assisted on by Hutcheon. Captain Scott McDougall had a relatively quiet night with a goal and an assist and Dennis McCauley had a nice welcome back party with a hat trick of his own.
"Bottom line is we came to play again tonight. And when we come to the rink ready to go no one in this league has the legs to keep up with us. I hope we can keep this going straight thru, we're coming up on the stretch run and we're still a point ahead of the Boozehounds for first place." said captain Scott McDougall after the game. With 4 games remaining on the schedule the next game will be against the Stickey Bandits next Wednesday at 8:30pm on rink 4.

Team rolls with new recruit...

The Danglers continued their winning ways last night with a 10-6 win over team YYZ. In a game filled with scoring one player stood out, it was Chris Murphy's first game in a Dangler uniform and the new guy made it count. After a few shifts of getting used to his new teammates Murphy scored the 4th Dangler goal of the first period to put the team ahead 4-2 going into the second and he never looked back from there. He added the games next goal 31 seconds into the second fram and added 2 assists in the second period for a big four point night. His 4 points ties the Danglers team record for most amount of points in a first game with the team.
The 19 year old Arlington, MA native will attend the University of Tennessee to play club hockey in college this upcoming season, only the second Dangler to play club hockey he was a standout in the EJHL this season scoring 31 points in 44 games. He had numerous scholarship offers that would have made him play another year in the EJ but when push came to shove Murphy decided it was time to move on and go the college route and have fun with it at UT. "I've always loved the game but juniors was so demanding and the campus at UT is unreal. I feel as though I've made the right career choice and plus have you seen the girls down there? They're unbelievable." said Murphy after the game. No matter what last night was a night Murphy won't soon forget. Edit Text

YYZ, Danglers set to do battle...

Tonight at 8:20pm your first place Snipe City Danglers will take on the last place YYZ on rink 2.  While on paper the Danglers completely over match YYZ, YYZ is a dangerous team.  "Any time a team is in last place they're going to be a dangerous team.  We've had a week off since our first place clinching win over the Boozehounds so we have to make sure we are sharp right from the start.  Sometimes after big wins teams come out flat, hopefully that won't happen to us tonight." said Andrew Scarpaci.  Team YYZ fell to 1-8-0 on the season after a disappointing 9-3 loss to the Stickey Bandits and will be looking to improve on their league low 34 goals in 9 games.  That won't be an easy task as the Danglers will get their number goalie back, after a two week hiatus Ryan McCauley will be back between the pipes.  "I tweaked my knee again in the game against Maynard and knew I needed some time off so I could be at 100% down the stretch and into the playoffs" said McCauley.  Tickets are still available for tonight's early game on rink 2. Joe Ahern will suit up for his second game in a Danglers uniform tomorrow night at 8:20pm and is extremely excited about the rest of the summer.  After tomorrow nights game against Team YYZ, the winter season's runner up, Ahern will fly to Columbus, OH to take part in Team USA tryouts for the Winter World University games.  More than 80 student-athletes at Division 1 club hockey schools in the country will attend the invite only tryouts, with only the top 23 making Team USA to compete in Turin, Italy this upcoming winter.  Ahern, a 22 year-old junior at Arizona State University is excited about not only the tryout but the opporunity to hone his skills with the Danglers before going to tryouts and back to ASU as the teams leading scorer in his previous 2 seasons.  As a sophomore this past year he scored 16 goals 13 assists for 29 points in 29 games to go along with 23 points in 24 games his freshman year.  "The chance to go to Turin is once in a lifetime and I'm really excited about that.  But I also have to thank the Danglers management for bringing me in for the remainder of the summer.  It's a great team with some real good players and playing at this level with these guys will only help me be that much better this upcoming season. Sometimes on a team full of all-star caliber players players get lost in the mix.  Chris Diozzi and Bryan Calabro are doing their best not to allow that happen to themselves and are doing a good job getting noticed for their strong play all summer.  Diozzi, the teams best defensive defenseman to date, has been on fire as of late scoring 5 of his 7 points in the last 3 games.  Included in those 5 points was his 1st goal as a Dangler, a truly special moment.  "It was something I was trying to keep my mind off of because when you start thinking about it, it seems like it never happens.  But I finally got a chance and just buried it against Maynard a few weeks ago.  It's a good feeling and I want to thank Bryan for grabbing me the puck, that thing is still up in the mantle in my house." said Diozzi
The Bryan he is talking about is forward Bryan Calabro.  A diminutive forward with surprising quickness and a knack for the net.  Always a playmaker growing up Calabro is starting to find his scoring touch this summer.  With a modest 5-5-10 line in only 6 games, Calabro is picking up points much more rapidly lately than at the beginning of the summer.  "It just seemed like thru the first couple of games the puck didn't want to bounce my way at all.  But lately I've calmed down alot and things have been going my way." says Bryan.
With these two starting to rack up the points along with the torrid scoring pace of the rest of the Danglers it comes as no surprise that the team is not only in first place in the league, but also lead the league in goals for with 89 goals scored in just 9 games.  "We're fast and can move the puck and bury it when we need to, I don't know if there is a team around who can stop us." added Calabro.  And only time will tell. Danglers steamroll into 1st place...

On the shoulders of captain Scott McDougall the Danglers blew past the Boozehounds for 1st place in the league last night with an 8-6 win.  McDougall led all players with 5 points on the night, continuing his offensive prowess.  "It's something that has really come together for me the past 3 games.  My first 2 games I was playing very cautious because of my wrist, but lately I've been getting opportunities to rip shots from the slot and they've been going in for me."  Jeff Fanning made his debut with the club a memorable one with 2 goals and an assist.  Fanning was signed to the roster late yesterday afternoon, missed the team's morning skate and just made it to the rink on time to suit up for the game.  "The whole day was crazy, one minute I'm laying out by the pool and all of the sudden at around 6pm my agent calls me and tells me he finally worked out a deal with the team.  I grabbed my gear and was out the door...it was awesome, I've been hoping something would happen all summer and it finally did."  His first goal in a Danglers uniform was assisted by Jon Hutcheon "The pass was what made the play, Hutch was able to sauce one thru center ice and it landed perfectly on my blade all I had to do was bury it."  Hutcheon was in great form last night recently off his stint with the Boston Bruins reality show training camp and chipped in 3 points.  And again Justin Bonitatibus was able to continue his all-star scoring ways with another hat trick.  Another player making his debut was forward Joe Ahern who chipped in 2 apples in the win.  "It was a great experience to play with these guys and I'm happy to have been signed on for the rest of the season."  The teams skated to a 3-3 tie after one period of play and then the Danglers took control of the game in the 2nd with 2 goals in the same shift from Bonitatibus and 1 on the next shift from Fanning.  That was all the boys needed as the score was 6-4 after 2.  The teams shared a pair of goals each in the 3rd to wrap up the scoring.  Next week the Danglers are off and are back on Wednesday August 2nd at 8:20pm against last place team YYZ.  Edit Text

Alternate captain Bonitatibus making a name for himself...

Management knew what 20 year old center Justin Bonitatibus was capable of, which is what earned him the "A" at the beginning of the season.  That is also why no one in the front office or on the bench panicked when Bonitatibus' offensive numbers weren't outstanding after the first 3 games of the season.  "Justin is the type of player you love to play with, you know he's going to bring something to the rink every game.  Whether it's on the scoreboard or in the face-off circle or in our defensive end he always comes ready to play.  Some nights all facets of his game is on and he's spectacular and other nights he only comes with two thirds of his game and he's still one of the top players on the ice."  said linemate Andrew Scarpaci.  The offense has started to come for Bonitatibus who is currently ranked 3rd in the points race with 21 points in just 6 games, what's more astounding is his prowess in the face-off circle as he leads the league winning 87.6% of his draws.  A former Eastern Junior Hockey League All-Star, he will continue his playing days at Merrimack College this upcoming fall as a freshman.  Before he steps foot on campus at Merrimack and goes after a Hockey East championship his mind is set on winning an NESHL championship this summer.  "It would be a great way to end the summer and go into school on a winning note." said Justin

Danglers make public appearance...

At least 5 Danglers were seen at the Kenny Chesney concert this past weekend.  Justin Bonitatibus, Jon Hutcheon and Chris O'Brien were all seen together by numerous fans and were stopped more than once for autographs.  "We read about these guys all the time on the website and have been planning a trip to NESC to watch them play, but to look behind us and see them right there was unbelievable.  Poor Jenna was so excited she threw up some of her weakness." said Tricia Helkey, refering to her friend Jenna Distensil who lost her lunch when she was so overjoyed at the sight of the 3 Dangler stars.  Also in attendance were the McCauley brothers who were sitting in the 10th row and may have been bigger celebrities to the girls around them than the singers on stage.  Be sure to come see all the boys this Wednesday at 10:20pm on NESC 4 against the Boozehounds.  Tickets on sale now. Boys still within 1 point of first place...

With last weeks 11-3 blowout over Maynard the Danglers are still only 1 point out of first place.  That point could be made up on Wednesday as the boys prepare to face off against the number one team in the league the Boozehounds.  The beer hungry dogs are led by defenseman Brett Smith, a former standout at St. A's who will attend the Boston Bruins training camp this fall.  It'll be a reunion of sorts for Brett and Dangler alternate captain Jon Hutcheon who spent last week together at the Boston Bruins "Be A Bruin" training camp.  The two are excited about playing against each other on Wednesday.  "It should be fun, Smitty and I played on the black team together last week for 3 days before I was traded to white, he's a solid player and it should be a good pace game with first place on the line."  said Hutcheon.  "Hutch played well all week last week and was real close to jumpstarting the white team to a couple wins after he got shipped across the hall, I can't wait to play in a fun game against him and share some more laughs." said Smith.  Both of the players had good showings at training camp in a Bruin uniform as Hutcheon notched a goal and 3 assists in 5 games and Smith scored 1 goal, 4 assists in 5 games.  Hutcheon knows he's headed to the Central Hockey League next season, however the whereabouts of where Smith is going are being a well kept secret from the public.  Come down to the NESC to see these 2 do battle at 10:20pm on rink 4 Wednesday night.

Danglers short bench rolls over Maynard 11-3

Short bench and all the boys who did show up came ready to play.  The scoring started immediately and never really let up.  The boys were without captain Scott McDougall due to prior commitments and alternate captain Jon Hutcheon because he was at the Boston Bruins "Be a Bruin" training camp all week.  They were also without Dennis and Ryan McCauley, a backup goalie was called in to play.  However, the team was led by Bryan Calabro, Jarrett Scarpaci, Justin Bonitatibus, Andrew Scarpaci and Chris O'Brien who all had 4 points on the night.

Brothers leading the way...

Jarrett Scarpaci and younger brother Andrew have always been two of the premier players on any team they've ever played on. However, due to a 2 year age gap growing up they never played together until high school. Even in high school it was only for Jarrett's senior season. But the brothers are back together again this summer and are tearing the league apart together. Thru 7 games this summer the two have combined for 39 points, 13 goals and a staggering 26 assists. Jarrett has led the team from day one and now has a team leading 20 points, only to be followed closely by Andrew who has 19 points. The two say playing together has always been a dream and even though it's only summer hockey they cherish every moment of it. "Growing up he was always the guy I looked up to, the older brother playing varsity hockey in high school as a freshman when I was in 7th grade. Jarrett was definately a good role model for me, I always tried to follow in his footsteps." said the 20 year old Andrew. Although their styles aren't very much alike, their offensive numbers are. Jarrett is the speedy forward who looks to make a play before shooting, while Andrew grew up as a forward but in the summer usually turns back to defense, where he controls the play with his smooth skating ability and great shot from the point. "We grew up playing street hockey in the front driveway everyday from the time I was 8 or 9 years old. Even if it was just myself and Andy we were always out there horsing around. It helped us both out and it's fun to get the chance to play with him this summer before my senior year and UConn and his freshman year at Salem St." said the 22 year old Jarrett. Although one is graduating from college next May and one is just starting college, the two will always be neck and neck on the ice. Edit Text

Danglers out growl Bears... The season continues to roll along so do the Danglers, as the team came up with their 6th won of the season last night over the Bears. 8 different goal scorers made up for a 13-8 win. The was once again led by the return of captain Scott McDougall whose 5 goals and 3 assists were once again tops among the team. The Danglers came out quick and opened up the game with a 5-2 lead after one period of play. However, a defensive implosion in the 2nd led to 5 Bears goals and threatened the lead of the Danglers only for alternate captain Justin Bonitatibus to lead a late 2nd period rally. In just a minute and 40 second time span the line of McDougall, Bonitatibus, Jarrett Scarpaci, Andrew Scarpaci, and Jon Hutcheon combined for 4 goals to retake the lead and it would stay that way the rest of the game. The boys added 4 more in the 3rd to wrap up the 13-8 win. "It's something that has killed us all summer long, our defensive play seems to lack for a bit in the 2nd for some reason and we leave Ryan out to dry in net. Lucky for us he pulled through with some big saves tonight and we were able to regain our composure late in the 2nd and put them away for good." said alternate captain Jon Hutcheon. "Hopefully next week we can put together a full 45 minute game and run away with another win against Maynard who played us hard the last time we squared up against them. They're a team who won't quit on you and we have to be ready to go." Next week's game will be played on Wednesday July 12th at 10:20pm on rink 3. Come show your support as the Danglers try to regain 1st place.

Danglers keep rolling along...

With 3 of the regulars missing including their captain and alternate captain things look gloomy.  They looked even worse after regular goalie Ryan McCauley was a late game scratch for unknown reasons.  But the boys pulled it together behind the strong efforts of Justin Bonitatibus and Jim Toomey on offense and the goaltending heroics of newcomer Mark Pulde the Danglers reeled off their 5th win of the season with a 8-5 win over the struggling Stickey Bandits.  The Danglers next game is Wednesday July 5th against the Bears at 9:30pm on rink 2.  More news to come as well as stat updates and an updated schedule. Danglers improve to 4-1-0

With only 8 guys in the Danglers locker room, but the spirits high the Danglers came out strong against YYZ. The scoring started early as Scott McDougall scored the first of his 5 goals on the night just 3:09 into the first frame. That set the tone for the 1st period and the Danglers held a 4-2 lead going into the second period. The second frame was a sloppy period for the Danglers as they allowed 3 goals and came out of the second with a 5-5 tie. After a little pep talk from their captain the boys came out to score 5 unanswered 3rd period goals. McDougall led the troops with 5 goals and 2 assists, behind him were Andrew Scarpaci and Mark Morreale with a goal and 3 assists each. Jarrett Scarpaci and Jim Toomey chipped in 3 points a piece and rounding out the scoring were Jon Hutcheon and Mike Cornell with 2 points each on the night. Next up for the boys is a first week rematch against the Stickey Bandits. It's a Wednesday night matchup on rink 1 at 9:10pm. The Danglers will be without leaders Scott McDougall, Jon Hutcheon and Mike Cornell as all 3 will be working a hockey camp in Cushing Academy.
Danglers ready to face-off with YYZ...

After last week humiliating 6-4 loss to the Boozehounds the boys vowed it would be the only loss of the summer.  YYZ will see if they can break that vow tonight at 9:50 in NESC.  YYZ (1-3-0) are coming off a win over the Stickey Bandits last week and will be looking to extend the Danglers losing streak to 2, that will be no easy task the Danglers are fired up to play tonight.  "I think last week proved to us that we are beatable, but only when we don't show up to play." said rookie forward Jim Toomey.  "We are a competitive group of guys who hate to lose, even though there are no easy nights we are hoping to make tonight an easy win for ourselves to get us back on track."

In other news defenseman Mike Cornell will rejoin the team tonight after missing last weeks game while he was at the Green Bay Gamblers mini camp.  "It was a great experience, even though I knew I wasn't going to leave Foxboro it was good to see what kind of competition I'm up against out in the west."  Also, alternate captain Jon Hutcheon has entered a contract agreement with the Rocky Mountain Rage of the Central Hockey League.  It will be Hutcheon's second pro camp, "I think last year in Danbury I learned alot and now I can use that knowledge going out to Rocky Mountain.  I can't wait to go and get the season underway with the new team."  Rocky  Mountain is the only team in the CHL without an AHL affiliation but one is in the works according to Rage head coach Tracey Egeland. One more player excited about debut...

Paul D'Agostino has signed an ATO with the Danglers and will make his debut Wednesday night against Maynard.  It was a move that was kept highly under wraps even from Captain Scott McDougall it was only known by Jon Hutcheon and Danglers management.  Dags is coming off his sophomore season at UMass Lowell and is another wily vet of the summer ranks with the boys as he was a key contributor to the Stars in the Bay State hockey league two summers ago.  In 21 collegiate games Paul as notched 8 assists and is a great playmaker who has speed and great vision on the ice.  He should fit right in with the team right away and will most likely iron out a one year contract within the two week ATO time frame.  Paul was reached on his cell phone late last night and had this to say "It would be the highlight of any players career to receive a phone call from the management of the Snipe City Danglers and for me to recieve that phone call and get this opportunity is truely a dream come true.  I can't wait."  Neither can the fans.  Game time is 9:30pm Wednesday June 7th.

Cornell, McDougall await debut...

Mike Cornell and Captain Scott McDougall are ready to go for Wednesday's game against Maynard.  Cornell, who missed the first 2 games due to school committments, will step in on defense and should help out immediately.  He will join alternate captain Jon Hutcheon, Chris Diozzi and Jake Henry on defense.  Henry is also scheduled to make his Dangler debut.
McDougall, who missed the first two games recovering from wrist surgery, can't wait for the start of his summer season either.  "These past two weeks have felt like an eternity, it's been rough.  Especially last week when we were short on guys, but the wrist just wasn't ready and I didn't want to rush things.  I feel confident that I will be able to contribute to the offense right away." said Scott.
"I can't wait to play with the team, but I'm happy for Scotty, he worked hard to get himself ready for this so it's good that he'll be able to play this week." Cornell said about his captain.
Hutcheon in the meantime hasn't had any time off since the last Danglers game (a 14-5 win).  After last Tuesday's game he played one game with Superskills hockey and then joined Buddy Johnson's team in the President's cup in Quincy, in which he was joined by alternate captain Justin Bonitatibus.  He is looking for some much needed rest before Wednesday's game but is excited about the possibility of going 3 and 0 on the young season.  He also has agreed to go to rookie camp with the Huntsville Havoc, of the SPHL in August.  "Going 3 and 0 will be a great way to start off our season and hopefully we will be able to pull it off.  We'll have everyone back including Dougall and Cornell so that should help us out alot."

Danglers staying busy...

With a week in between games it is sometimes tough for players to stay sharp, not so with this group of guys.  Captain Scott McDougall has started skating and is a probable to play in his first Danglers game this upcoming Wednesday.  Also due to make his debut will be 18 year old defenseman Mike Cornell, who just finished up his senior year at Mount St. Charles and is ready to go.  In the spirit of staying on the ice alternate captain Jon Hutcheon will be playing in the highly touted President's Cup in Quincy this weekend, the tournament will feature some of the top collegiate and pro players from Massachusetts.
In other news, Mark Morreale has agreed to a one year contract with the Danglers.  Mark was previously on an Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO) with the team and with his 2 week ATO coming to an end last night at midnight, Danglers management and Mark were able to hammer out an agreement.  Morreale has been on fire in his first two games with the squad notching 7 points on 4 goals and 3 assists putting him tied for second in the points race, leaving the Danglers no other choice but to offer him a contract.  "Getting Mark for the whole season was really a no brainer, we knew all along he could be a force if he could come in and shake the rust off and he has done that alot quicker than any of us expected." said Player/Coach Scott McDougall.  Mark himself was estatic to sign his one year deal, "This is something I wanted from the start, these are guys I grew up playing with and wanted to show them I still had it.  I am going to make an announcement to my inline team that they're only 100 point scorer will no longer be in attendance this season.  At this time I just want to thank the Danglers for giving me an opportunity these past two weeks and now I have a chance to show everyone what I have for the whole summer."  When the news reached alternate captain Justin Bonitatibus he was also very pleased with the transaction, "I think some of these guys who are in here on ATO's like Batesy and Yetten can really learn from a guy like Mark.  Morreale was a guy we really only expected to have around these first two weeks and then sparingly after that so for him to come in and earn himself a spot after just two weeks says alot of his intensity and desire."

The Danglers have also announced the addition of the "Danglers Connection" which will be a mailing list keeping you informed on when the website is updated and other news that you may not hear on the website such as player appearances and early playoff ticket availability.  If interested send an email with Danglers Connection as the subject to JHutch923@hotmail.com or reach us at www.myspace.com/jonhutch

The Danglers will be off this weekend and will have practice next Monday and Tuesday in Saugus in the morning, then it's time to get back at it Wednesday night against Maynard.  Puck drops at 9:30pm

Danglers find scoring touch...

Six different scorers added up to 14 goals and a 14-5 rout of the Bears on Tuesday night.  Due to the change of nights the Danglers only had 8 players, but 8 was plenty as the goals came in bunches.  Every single player had at least 3 points on the night and were paced by the debut performance of superstar Dennis McCauley and Jarrett Scarpaci, both had 7 points.  McCauley had 4 goals and 3 assists, as Scarpaci chipped in a goal with 6 assists.  Mark Morreale had 3 goals and 2 assists, good for 5 points, following him were newcomer Nick Yetten (2 goals, 2 assists), Andrew Scarpaci (3 goals, 1 assist) and Jim Toomey (4 assists).  Rounding out the scoring was fill in player Mark Bates and Jon Hutcheon, Bates had 3 assists and Hutcheon had 1 goal along with 2 assists.  The Danglers power play was on fire as they went 2 for 3 on two beautiful goals by McCauley and J. Scarpaci, which improves the team powerplay percentage to 75%.  Between the pipes Ryan McCauley was a force stopping 23 of 28 shots and he is only looking to improve, "Tonight was the first night back in almost 6 months after leaving Texas and I felt a little rusty at first.  I think that with each game though I will get better and better, I mean hand it to the guys who played in front of me it's always easy to play goal when your team is pumping in 14 goals on just 30 something shots."
Also, it is worth noting that it was the second straight game that the Danglers did not commit a penalty, something that isn't always easy in summer hockey.  "I think that we're staying disciplined and not allowing the other teams hacks and whacks get to us is definately going to be a major key for being successful in this league." said Hutcheon after the game.
With the win the Danglers improve to a 2-0-0 record on the young season with hopes of continuing the high scoring next week when they face Maynard at 9:30pm on Wednesday. Edit Text

Team readies for 2nd game of the season...

The Danglers spent the past 5 days resting and getting themselves ready for game 2 of the summer season.  Tonight will mark the beginning of the McCauley reign in net, as Ryan McCauley will get the nod between the pipes.  Also, available tonight will be Dennis McCauley, Mark Bates and Jake Henry.  All three players will be making their Danglers debut.  The team looked well rested in practice on Sunday morning and are gunning towards another win in the young season.  Andrew Scarpaci was proud to announce his plans on becoming a Salem State Viking next season, Scarpaci will be a freshman for the 06-07 season and is ready to up his game to the college level.  He had this to say Sunday after the team skate, "You know it's a step up from where I've been playing, but I'm ready for the challenge.  I think it will be fun and who knows what will happen after 4 successful seasons, I just want to help the team out."
Tonight's game against The Bears starts at 10:30pm on rink 5 at NESC.  Also in the news, Captain Scott McDougall is eyeing June 7th as a potential debut for him as he thinks his wrist may be fully healed by then.  Assistant Captain Jon Hutcheon has also starting talking with 2 teams in the SPHL, but that is all that has been released to the press at this time.

Danglers take season opener...

5 different scorers add up to a 5-2 Win

The much anticipated Snipe City Danglers lived up to the hype of their season opener with a 5-2 shlacking over the Stickey Bandits last night at NESC.  It didn't take long for the Danglers to open the scoring as Bryan Calabro scored just 2:54 into the game assisted by Mark Morreale and Jarrett Scarpaci.  And just 24 seconds later Justin Bonitatibus got his first of the year assisted by Andrew Scarpaci.  It was a big night for Andrew as he netted a goal and two assists.  The Bandits scored two goals at 6 minutes apart in the opening frame to tie up the game but from that point on Pat Watson shut the door on the Bandits.  The Danglers would strike quickly in the 2nd on Jim Toomey's first of the season assisted by A. Scarpaci and Jon Hutcheon.  That was all the scoring the second period had to offer but it was more than enough for the Danglers to seal the deal.  However, the Danglers carried the play in the 3rd and added 2 insurance markers Morreale picked up a goal 6:13 into the period assisted by J. Scarpaci and Calabro and just 31 seconds later A. Scarpaci finished out the scoring with assists going to Bonitatibus and Toomey on a beautiful tic-tac-toe play where all 5 Danglers touched the puck.  After the game injured player turned coach Scott McDougall wasn't very pleased with the amount of turnovers committed by the Danglers and sloppy defensive play "That was a team that shouldn't have been on the same ice with us, but give them credit they came out and worked hard and were able to stay with us even though we carried much of the play.  But, before our next game we really need to be aware of the neutral zone turnovers and lack of defense we played, thank god for Watty in the pipes.  It's just unexceptable for Dioz and Burnsy to be a minus 2 in a 5 to 2 win, but it was only the first game so we can only get better from here."

Newflash...

This morning 3 of the Danglers top players Justin Bonitatibus, Chris Diozzi, and Jon Hutcheon took part in the optional team practice at Saugus Hockeytown.  The 3 were joined by 3 other chumbums and played a 3 on 3 game for close to 3 hours.  Diozzi's team topped Justin and Hutcheon by one goal.  Overall though it was a good showing, especially for Bonitatibus who had some terrific goals and even better dangles.  Some uplifting news was Diozzi skated the full practice and reported little backpain and said he would be able to go tomorrow night.
We were able to catch up with all three of them and asked both alternate captains Bonitatibus and Hutcheon how they felt the season would go, "Well we know we have a very strong squad and there's no doubt that this could be a very successful season.  It's going to take some hard work but with the talent of this team I don't see any reason why we aren't having a celebration parade through the streets of our hometowns come September." said a very confident Hutcheon.  "I see very few weaknesses, I mean when someone is injured we're going to be able to bring in a guy just as skilled if not better.  No one will touch us anytime soon." added Bonitatibus.
And it is finally time for the boys to show what they can do with their much anticipated season opener just 24 hours away.  Puck drops at 9pm on NESC rink 1.  Tickets available thru the Dangler box office at 978-767-5731 or email at JHutch923@hotmail.com  See you there!

The Danglers season opener is only 2 nights away and defenseman Chris Diozzi could be a possible scratch for that inaugural game.  Diozzi was working out with teammate Justin Bonitatibus earlier tonight when he wrenched his back.  Early indications say the injury is just a minor tweak and team chiropractor/yoga man at Gold's Gym in Arlington was able to work the kinks out.  Chris will take part in the optional morning skate tomorrow at 10am in Saugus and see how he feels after that.  His situation right now is day to day.  "It's just a little uncomfortable right now, so I'll ice it tonight and see how it feels after the skate in the morning.  I should be ready to go though, not much would keep me from missing opening night." said Diozzi.
